[Poll] how stressful is your job
So my friend is in a healthcare and has her emails monitored. Here is her query: "Amazon interviewing for a Sr. Business Intelligence position. Any tips for the initial telephonic round. Required to have Python and or Javascript but I have 0 experience in both. Should I be focusing on preparing for basics or just brush up on SQL & Tableau to prove potential? Do I need to prepare myself for situational question which align to Amazon principles?" Update: she does have basic experience with python but not with JS. Also, position is Sr. BIE. Any insight into what to prep for ( she didn't get much in e-mail beyond that she should prep for LPs and whatever is on her resume) #amazon #businessintelligence #phoneinterviewquestions
Realistically your friend won’t get the job. Surprised they entertained doing an initial screening as these big company jobs won’t hire you if you have 0 experience doing the things indicated on the job req. Sure you can focus on brushing up SQL and Tableau but if they’re looking for you to write python and JavaScript and you can’t then you’re not at all qualified. Apply for a job you can do?
Please keep ur negativity out. You really don't know that. Neither u gave any advice about the process nor useful tips. So, I am going to disregard your advice.
Linkedin is right and it's not negativity. If you don't have the skills don't apply. You're wasting recruiters times.
Amazon never expects python/Java. Your friend may have confused the role? Sql, lp are the two most important thing .they let tableau pass by usually if you have experience in some other software for visualization..or atleast your principles of visualization are strong - when to use what kind of graph etc . You should tell your friend that "brushing up SQL" isn't enough.. BIEs have to live, eat, breathe SQL
It's BIE role. She is good with SQL and Tableau. Those sit at core of her current day-to-day job. She has notes on LPs from people who have cracked the SDE and Sr. SDE roles and I am going take her mock interview for LPs. The basic requirements had scripting in python/JavaScript which, I think she missed that before. She is not good with JS but knows little bit of python.
That's a very generic BIE JD. According the role guideline, at max some scripting like say bie has to copy a bunch of files from one location to another using python - is a good to have.. tell your friend to focus on LPs - way more than SDEs. BIE interview is about 75-80% LPs
@op: I interviewed for Sr BIE, initial phone screen had both, SQL and Python. Not too heavy on DS & Algo but basic coding skills were tested. SQL definitely on medium-hard side. May be it is team and position specific but from my experience of interviewing at Amazon, I found DE interview rounds bit easy to tackle than BIE.
For SQL did you have option of MS SQL or it's just only MySQL?? I am proficient on T-SQL but never used MySQL
Any SQL flavor works... just make it clear to interviewer about syntax. I used both, postgresql and ms sql flavor. Most of the windows functions are supported in MySQL latest version. You can try writing queries in old MySQL version too, it’s not that hard and actually it’s fun coming up with logic (inner queries, sub queries, joins) without using any window function 😃😃
I’m L6 BIE interviewer and most of my PS has scripting. Internally Amazon just convert BIE to tech and now expect higher coding skills than before.
For SQL is there option of MS SQL(T-SQL) or it's just only MySQL?? I am proficient on T-SQL but never used MySQL.
Doesn’t matter what SQL, it’s more about logic, kind of like white board coding, they won’t run your SQL against any data
Not sure if you mean a BIE or dev role. Those are two distinct roles. For BIE, SQL/ Tableau (more than basics) is required. Scripting is less important generally, but may depend on the team. Make sure leadership principles have examples
Thank you for ur advice. She knows little bit of python. She is good with SQL and Tableau.
