Hello Everyone, I got invitation for on-site interview with Amazon@Seattle for Technical Support Engineer. I do have some software development background, what can I expect in on-site interviews (more of LC and some design questions or something different.)? There was one phone screen for 1 hour with lot of STAR based questions. Really appreciate any inputs here. Thanks.
The individuals who are usually successful in this role usually come from either devops, or SDE that didnt quite make the cut. The tech bar is on par with the SDEI bar but the LP's will change depending on the level. Your ability to problem solve will be tested heavily. As well as your ability to earn trust.
Agreed. I am a support engineer and I was tested on data structures , logic and maintainability and problem solving..system design was the only one missing compared to sde 1 interview. Support engineer role defers from team to team. So, if a team needs more scripting skills, you can probably expect more scripting questions. Good to be prepared in all fronts. Tackle it like a sde interview.
Thanks for the inputs. @AxEe40 This position is for EC2 team. I have java background and limited scripting skills but can write code/scripts in language by quick lookup. Should I focus more on LPs and data structure problems using java? Or try to get grip on scripting language have like 10-12 days time for prep. Thanks in advance.
What org? It's varies by org.
It is for EC2 support.
My team is looking for an SEIII. You want to come on over?
Hey can you share your experience?
I dont think you need LC for support engineer. On the job the engineers are mostly troubleshooting customer issues, cases. Its technical and you will use scripts and coding snippets there but nothing more than that. Prepare lot of LP's and come up with good STAR format stories. Dont know more than this , havent been to any support engineer interviews
Thanks for quick response, will prepare well in areas you mentioned.
