I got messaged my an Amazon recruiter about roles in the US and Canada, then when I said I wasn’t an Australian citizen they said only Canada would be an option. Does Amazon not offer sponsorship for H1B visas? #h1b #visa #tech
Do you live in Australia?
Yes
Summary of what you will find on wiki about H1B "H1B (speciality occupation) visa is very highly seeked visa which let non us citizen work in usa. Us govt invites applications from employers who they want to sponsor every year. Because they always get more than the 80,000 (20,000 reserved for students who did their Masters in usa uni) they conduct lottery to select who will get the visa. This whole process starts somewhere in mar/Apr which goes till Nov/Dec of every year." It is not like getting a work permit in Australia directly. If you are born in India/China/Phillipines, then the queue for Green Card (Permanent residence) based on employment takes roughly 25 years. Unlike Australia or Canada where the PR is designed on a point based system, USA puts a cap on the nationality based on birth(not citizenship). You can read rest on wiki. If you are interested and lot lazy
Right I knew it was a lottery but I don’t know what that changes in regards to applications. Do they only accept people who require H1B visas up to a certain time in the year?
They wouldn't want to gamble with the offer. What if you don't get selected for H1B?.
I see. This is the answer I was looking for thank you. So everyone is employed via another visa first and then transferred (if successful) to H1B?
Most people I know transferred from within the company from their home country to US (L1 or H1B).
You can only work with h1b. H1b has a cap and therefore even after you employer signs you up for it, your application goes to lottery first and you’re more likely rejected. If you’re Indian or Chinese you have to extend this every 3 years and again the same lottery since you can’t practically apply for permanent residency(green card) if you’re Indian or Chinese or Philippine
I’m from New Zealand but I still think only H1B applies to me
Yeah but you’ll be able to get a green card. Also you don’t have to stay in Canada. You can move to us after 1 year with L visa but that depends on your level usually. What level after you applying for?
H1b is done only once a year and hence difficult to do it anytime of the year
Goto Wikipedia and read about H1B before posting here
I see Amazon is listed as one of the largest issuers
By that logic you should apply to WITCH as they are top 5 of the table. It shows you still didn’t read Wikipedia on how H1B works.
