I have an offer (Software Engineer) from Amazon and Meta , both in the Bay Area. Amazon: • Base - $148.4k • Sign on - $56.1k year 1/ $38.1k year 2 • Stocks - $128,166 (5/15/40/40) TC: $210.9k year 1, $205.7k year 2, $199.67k rest My Amazon team is under the Devices, Digital, and Alexa Support org, which is responsible for creating tools to help customers receive customer support, with front-end and back-end work. Meta: • Base - $137k • Sign on - $18k • Stocks - $150k/4 year • 10% Performance Bonus TC : $192.5k year 1/ $174.5k rest My Meta team deals with authentication and login across all of Meta's social platforms with opportunities to work on front-end, back-end, and ML projects. This team sounds more interesting to me and feels more high-impact than that of Amazon. The team is split between NYC/Menlo Park so I have the option to switch to NYC in the future, which is a huge bonus for me. Everyone I've consoled about this suggest that I pick Meta over Amazon for faster promo/growth. The main hesitation in selecting Meta is due to the difference in compensation. I heard from many people that Meta is refusing to negotiate with new grads, regardless of competing offers. I understand that the difference in compensation may be minuscule in the long term if I can grow faster at Meta, but I'm afraid of making the wrong decision by taking that risk. Please advise. Which would you pick? I'd really appreciate hearing your thought process as well! #meta #amazon #newgrad #newgradsalary #offers #microsoft #google
That does sound low for new grad. META was offering $100k joining bonus to returning interns in 2016 when I graduated
They're lowballing everyone this year. The highest bonus I've seen is $32k, which was given to someone who have interned previously and reapplied for new grad.
I didn't even think Amazon had new grad positions available
Alexa is cooked, no?
I started at Amazon as a new grad and now at Meta as E4. Probably you should pick Meta. Don't forget about comparing benefits too. The only unique benefit from Amazon I can think of is being able to bring your dog to the office. Other than that, Meta is 10x better. You have free breakfast/lunch/dinner which can save you hundreds every month. And the 401k matching is way better. With Amazon, I was getting around 3k in matching and with Meta I will get over 10k (whatever half of the max is, since Meta is dollar for dollar). Lastly, I agree that the Meta team sounds way more interesting from a technical perspective.
+1 to benefits. Life @ is 2k + 11.5k in 401k match then if you come into office the food will save you easily 5k a year. So close to 20k in benefits. Meta also has nice gyms if working out is important to you. The at work experience will be so much better. Plus fast promo’s at low levels. Seems like a no brainer to me.
Go for better work/team. I.e. meta
meta, not even close
The poll says 103% meta 😂
Alexa is an extremely unstable org and went through multiple rounds of layoffs. Do not join.
I’m just got an offer for the same team at Meta. If the hm letter starts with a C that’s same dude. Hit my DM.
I work on a team at Amazon that does the same thing as the one you got an offer from at Meta. And this space has crazy impact opportunities, lot's of promos across the board in the Org.

Meta >>>>>> Amazon
How come?
It depends. Parts of Amazon like Annapurna labs are light-years ahead of meta - responsible for the hardware behind AWS and build their own ML accelerator (Meta failed at that). Or parts of the logistics side of retail with the world's most complex logistics chains and some brilliant operational researchers. Vast swaths suck ass and a low quality Java microservices. Meta has real skills in actually building LLMs like Llama. But then they suck at hardware, so it runs on AWS and Nvidia kit. Amazon has a tough reputation for PIP especially for juniors. But then Meta can rise and fall fast, like the metaverse fuckup and it's just as PIP willing now. Right now Meta might pay more. Worked for both. Amazon pays me more, and the work is better (building ML chips).
