Hi Blind friends, I have recently received 2 offers for a Business Analyst role, and I would love to hear your perspectives to help me make a better decision. The 2 offers are as follows: Amazon: Business Analyst (L5) - Seattle - TC 125k Nordstrom: Data Analyst 2 - Seattle - TC 110k Between the two, what would make one better than the other in terms of work culture, career opportunities, immigration and quality of work? I'm a female PoC and have about 3 YOE in the retail domain, and want to learn from your experiences. While Amazon seems like a big name and higher TC, I'm worried about their PIP and work culture. I've heard good things about Nordstrom from a few people, but feels like I'll be constrained to the retail space and that it is not a tech company. What are the factors that you'd consider when choosing between the 2? Any help is appreciated. Thank you #hiring #offer #amazon #nordstorm #businessanalyst #tableau #powerbi
Current TC? Amazon on ur resume will open more doors no in the future
Current TC 86k. Could you share your experiences/insights about any of the 2?
I don’t have any sorry! I think the TC increase is worth the move Make sure to always negotiate!
I’m a swe, so I’m not sure how things are for data analysts at Nordstrom. But in general WLB is chill for swe. Have you asked Nordstrom to match Amazon?
Yea do give it a shot and ask them to match, they might do since you have a pretty good competitive offer
So my husband works at Amazon and I am with Nordstrom, since I have seen both I can say that WLB is pretty good at Nordstrom and reverse at Amazon but you get much better visibility and learning experience in Amazon. If you are young and single not much worried about the family time or so go for Amazon as it will open more doors in the future.
Go for NORDSTROM. Best working culture and people farrrrr better than Amazon
Could you please shed more light on why you feel this way? Any specific reason you could point out?
Pace of work is results driven in Amazon where you will feel constant pressure. At Nordstrom it’s much more of learning and you being part of the team to shape up the results. While Amazon encourages you to fail and learn , it comes at a mental health cost to go through it. At Nordstrom it’s more inclusive while you work to make your progress where everything is much appreciated across business and engineering. Also for you to understand what told you would be playing and your responsibilities at Amazon is going long process.
Worked both places. I love Amazon especially for the various opportunities available internally to work on what i like
I would recommend Amazon if you want to learn and grow. If you are content with what you have and look to take a backseat approach then jwn. You will see constant challenges and plenty of exposure at Amazon. Wlb can be stressful depending on the team.
For growth and opportunity like people have said Amazon probably opens more doors as a big name on your resume, but I have loved Nordstrom’s wlb, and honestly can’t see myself working for any company larger than Nordstrom and only want to go smaller, so if the doors you want are big companies I would say to choose Amazon. As for being stuck in retail, everything I’ve worked on with analysts (I’m a swe) has been marketing/fraud related, which are two relevant topics for any company, so I wouldn’t let that guide your decision :)
Hi OP! Did you end up joining Nordstrom?

High performers, how often do you have slack off days?
Why leaving Microsoft? Nordstrom's offer is lower plus Amazon looks better for career growth. I would say Amazon here.
My experience with the team at MS has been hit and miss. Although I liked the work I did, the management was very 'micro-managey' and lacks a concrete vision and resources. The main concern I have with Amazon is that the role involves analysis of internal data, it's lack of WLB and PIP... Could you share your experience with any of the two?
How did you come to know it's lack of PIP?
