I joined Amazon as a Project Manager in Dec 2021 and will qualify for my first annual performance increase this year. I have been a top performer since starting and my manager has mentioned this many times. I will qualify for a ~6% performance raise. However, given the additional projects I am incharged of and past performance I would like to ask for a 15% increase. Should I have a conversation with him before the compensation discussion or wait for that? How to navigate? TC: 160k #amazon #amazoncompensation
You won’t get a 15% increase without a promo. Also just because your manager says you are a “top performer” will mean you get a top tier OV rating.
So no room for negotiation without promo?
Most likely not, you can ask for an out of cycle increase but without a promo it’s probably not going to happen. I’d focus on my promo doc and if your manager means what they say, you should be promoted sometime in 2023, even if it’s Q4.
There is no negotiation. Based upon on your rating, your target compensation will be calibrated within the pay band for your job code. High performers will be paid higher in the band. There isn’t a standard % increase in pay.
Lol may be u want to wait until 18th
Here’s my guess for how this will go based on Amazon’s comp policies in recent years. You’ll officially meet to discuss performance, and your manager will say you are doing well, peers say good things about you, etc. If the official message is that you are “exceeding expectations,” then you indeed received a strong performance rating. Then, several weeks later you’ll have a comp conversation based on your rating. Your base pay will increase the following month assuming you received a strong rating (unless you are already at the very top of the base pay range for your role). If you joined in December 2021, any shares scheduled to vest in 2023 are way down in value. Amazon won’t do anything about it, though. They will give you more shares to bring you into the target range (based on role/performance) for 2024, but amazon will assume +15% annual increase in share price. However, if you are a strong performer, then you will probably be on track for a promo before any additional shares would vest in 2024.
Given the current scenario, it's highly likely there won't be any increases in comp!
