Can Amazon ban you for life from the interview process ? An external recruiter got back to me today that they have note in the system that my interview didn't go well last time so they will not allow me to apply to any Amazon company. Is this for real? Post edited - recruiter clarified it might be 2 years ban.
OP, be honest. What did you do? You don't get banned for nothing.
If an on-site has all no hire, then you are banned
Didn't do anything! In fact I had an on-site with them last time but yeah it didn't go well as they had expected.
You are almost certainly in a 2 year cool down. This is standard these days for no hire decisions. A lifetime ban is not standard, and would usually be limited to people who do something illegal or strongly objectionable in an interview.
Yeah I think it's 2 years. Recruiter clarified later
I thought standard is 1 year
Depending on the interview performance, it can happen if people feel candidate needs some time to grow before they can be successful at Amazon. Remember Amazon interview is not just coding and system design which you can probably get better at in a few months. They probe into your experience which needs some time to gather.
You must have done really stupid last time. Yes they do ban people
I guess I will prepare better next time. No point in arguing or regretting now. Time to move on and be stronger and smarter.
I thought Amazon's cool down period is only 6 months.
Happened with me.. For my system design I interviewed with a POS who may have been the bar raiser and was a big asshole..
For how long did they ban you?
I was told 2 years by my recruiter but then I got an interview from audible so idk if they really track it
The "no recycle" stays is in effect for 2 years. It is not absolute, but you would need a strong advocate to overcome it. It is never done for competency, as we have no idea what competencies a future hiring manager would be looking for. It is done for serious failure in several leadership principles, or for integrity. Reasons I have not recycled: Threatened or attacked an interviewer. Obviously high. Tried to repeatedly show us confidential information. Obviously lied. Failed miserably on several Amazon Leadership Principles, and would even if downgraded a level.
Typically they only do this when it’s much more than poor interview performance, such as making false claims that you know a particular technology well and then it becomes clear to them that you exaggerated or lied.
I mean any company can do anything they want with hiring (outside of discrimination of protected groups).
This is f***ing crazy !!
Lol why is it crazy? If you start a company, would you want others telling you whom you can and can't hire?
