How is the base pay calculated in Amazon? I know that TC is calculated based on rating i.e HV3 will get 50% of TC range for example. Is base pay also determined similarly i.e HV3 will get 50% of base pay range? I heard something about compa ratio but not sure how it impacts this. Any pointers? YoE: 6 in Amazon TC: 320K @amazon #amazon #compensation #google #microsoft
No. Thereâs a base range and it doesnât fluctuate based on TCT. There is a âblack box formulaâ to determine base but long story short, youâll get small raises until you max out (reach top base band for your level/role) at which time itâs just back to RSUs only. Compa ratio is part of it, but base pay doesnât go down. It used to be simpler as everyone L6+ was capped at $160K, but that has changed.
What is the cap now?
The cap now is 350k. But there are caps based on levels. So L6 Solutions Architect base pay can go up to 205k I think (in low cost of labor cities). L7 Solutions Architects can go up to 260k base, with total comp ranging from 350-500k. (give or take a few thousand) Not sure for SDEs, but it would be higher than Solutions Archs.
I know TT (not YoY TT) L6 SDM getting max of the base pay band (249K vs 250K max). So I thought TT should be getting 80% if the base pay band as well, which isnât the case here. Their TC was 80% of the band. So not sure how the penetration in base pay band is decided. Can anyone help?
