Hi Guys, I am moving to seattle next month to join amazon. Can you guys please throw some light on how people commute to down town office and what is the car parking scenario like ?
Bus..parking is impossible
Can you let me know any app which gives the bus schedules?
Google maps work pretty accurate in Seattle
Commute through I-5 from Kirkland, Bothell and other popular locations. It is very crowded in peak hours. Some use buses (paid by Amazon). Parking is paid up to $160 per month or you pay $150 per month in Amazon-subsidized parking near office, but not a lot of slots available, so you may wait for it for months.
If you’re planning to live in downtown then you can simply walk to to the office..for apartment parking they usually charge $200-300. If you have a family and planning to stay in Redmond or Bellevue then you have good commute options like scoop ride share and vanpool, also Bus is an option. If you plan to drive form Redmond or Bellevue then it will take approximately 25 mins if you leave before 7:30am otherwise it will take up to 1 hr after 8am. (Via 520 toll bridge) The toll is around $4.5 in peak hours
What about amazon shuttles how good are they?
I got parking in a satellite garage (10 min walk) after 3 weeks of waiting. Find a team that doesn’t have standup until 11. I leave at 10:30 am and enjoy a sweet, sweet 15 min commute from Wedgwood. It’s 30-45 mins if I leave 8-9 am tho.
520, I-90 both gonna be super slow during peak hours. Your best bet is to take a bus or carpool to avail the bus only or HoV lane. Our office is right next to it and we see it everyday car crawling at snail pace on 520. And I used to commute from Bellevue to Seattle through i-90, no different either, specially now as the restricted lanes are closed due to transit construction.
The wait list for a parking spot can take almost 2 years. I received my spot 17 months after joining the wait lime. Commuting sucks depending on where you're at. I decided it wasn't worth the hassle and rented within walking distance to the office. The only downside is the neighborhoods are dead during the weekend.
What about inter campus shuttles?
They still have to sit in traffic so I wasn't interested. Dont get me wrong, there are some good shuttles found at mycommute but I just didnt want to waste 2+ hours a day sitting in traffic. To me the extra money in rent was worth the saved headache.
