A recruiter recently messaged me about an Amazon Robotics contractor role. My ultimate goal is to become FTE at a FAANG one day—will being an Amazon contractor hurt or help my chances for that down the line? It’s for a Business Intelligence Engineer role, which is exactly the kind of role I’m targeting, fwiw. #contractor
I’ve seen plenty of contractors turn into FTE’s after their contracts. Though you’re a contractor you will still work the same scope as FTE. So I would say go for it!
beware that contractors are second class citizens at most companies. but you have a massive leg up in getting FTE since you can directly contact internal recruiters and get interviews
I contracted at Meta before and I can relate to being second class citizen thing
Go ahead. If you do well, u may get FTE in Amazon easily
I contracted for 2 months until my VP asked me to loop. I was the first of 4 contractors on my team that converted. It is possible but you have better chances of applying for FTE role.
So you’re saying just skip the contractor opportunity altogether, go straight to applying for FTE right?
I would go for FTE.
I’ve personally FTE’d 3 contractors when I was a people manager in Alexa, and I know of a decent number of folks who went from contractor to full time at AR as well. I’d say go for it.
Update: messaged a whole lot of Amazon recruiters for an FTE BIE role and now am scheduling my technical interview!
