BREAKING: Internal sources confirm another round of layoffs just hit emails at Tesla. For real.
Interviewed for SDE2, got SDE1 offer. Non-bay/nyc 150k offer but said I’d get an exception for 180k offer. Current TC: 157, but my 401k match makes it 165k (Amazon doesn’t really have a 401k match) Getting promoted at mid year gets me to 175k if you include 401k match. Still have Google, Facebook and Twitch interviews. What would you do? Also, what does a promotion look like if you’re at the top of band for SDE1. Not buying into the recruiters “you’ll be promoted in a year” BS but it’d still like to know
Amazon has 401k match, it’s just not great 1 year promo is doable but is luck and team based, you really have to earn trust Getting promoted to L5 SDE will be faster than L4 promo at Google but slower than E4 at Facebook, and puts you only at bottom of band
Yea isnt it 2% and doesn’t vest for 3 years? I’m counting that at no 401k for now, especially since my current company matches 7.5% and vests immediately (since I’ve been there for 2 years) Also Isn’t bottom band sde2 190k? If that’s the case then it would be title promotion only.
Right you must stay for 3 years to get match
Don’t accept
Currently where I’m leaning, yea. Just thinking it through
They offered me 210k for L4, but I still didn’t accept. It is only 20% higher than my current pay for 100% more work.
Stay where you are and try one of the other companies. You can always interview at Amazon again in a year.
No take the offer was in exact same boat while switching from service now. Amazon is a good company to grow and the skills you develop here are exceptional in many ways at SDE1 level. In terms of immigration they will allow you to transfer to any country.
I like the contrary opinion. Thanks!
Avoid Amazon - dont accept.
Hmm thanks for the 192 number that’s helpful. Seems like the exemption will take a while so that’s in my favor with regards to my other interviews, but that’s exactly what I told them, I wanted to have more time to make a decision, expressed my interest in working there, etc. I have 5 YOE
Ahh that’s why the exception they’d get for me is for 180k, that’s super helpful because she made it seem like 190 wasn’t out of the question.
