Amazon equipment request
I'll be joining Amazon in a few weeks and had a question regarding requesting equipment. I've heard that equipment selection, specifically laptops, are usually older PCs. Would it be worth/wise emailing my HM and asking for a Mac? Or would I be able to change after I see what they offer? FWIW, I'm on the marketing side.

Congrats! I’d be surprised if you don’t get to have a choice after you join. I recommend you bring this up during your onsite orientation on day 1 and ask the person in charge of your orientation (most likely you will meet them before your HM). If your team didn’t have a choice, don’t push it - you don’t want to be an outlier. Welcome aboard.
Thank you! That's great advice. I was thinking to send a polite email to HM asking that Id prefer a Mac and to also ask about a preference for my email alias. But also didn't want to seem like I'd be an annoying/problematic employee before even joining. But this may make more sense.

My HM sent me an email after offer acceptance asking me what alias I wanted and whether I would prefer a Mac or PC. I doubt they would reject your request

That's actually my other question, whether I should let my HM know a what preference I have for my email alias. Sounds like it wasn't an issue for you?
Equipments depends on your role and job. You get crappy equipments for non tech roles. Don’t expect too much. It’s all already decided before the NHO

SDEs get new macbook 2017 without any approvals. You can also get approval to get 6 core macbook pro if you can justify it and your manager is cool.
Not an SDE, I'd be on the non-tech side. Just want to make sure asking isn't construed as annoying/problematic/presumptuous etc
