Sorry I used strong language here, but disgusting is not even enough to describe this situation. I transferred team 4 months ago since my former manager was not a tech lead but rather, a politician. In the past 4 months, two people including me left his team. Although we are not the TT in his mind, we are delivering the most (by ticket closing) to the vertical. After we left, his revenue was heavily impacted. Now he chased to my new manager and asked me to re-do the work I did back in September. However, he asked me to use the most updated data. For analytics and DS folks, if you are using new data, you are basically creating new things. Instead of letting his team to deal with it, he escalated and forced me to work on this. My new manager tried her best to push back, but our L7 does not have any backbone. Instead, she criticized us for not being collaborative. Over the past 4 months, the incapable IC L6 kept messaging me for questions after our transition date. When we were working together, he delivered 3%, and I covered 83% of the vertical tickets. It was truely amazed to see how incapable ppl were protected so well at Amazon. In addition to this, my old manager kept interrupting me at multiple meetings saying his team has something similar and we could collaborate to build something “unified”. I know exactly what team has, and he’s nothing but trying to steal resources and achievements from my new team. This old manager was valued by leadership through lying, using tricks to boost revenue number, and all other disgusting stuff. Since we are all under same director, we can’t really do anything but to LC and leave. HR doesn’t give a shit either. Never seen anyplace disgusted like this. I have banned Amazon, and I hope this company someday get punished for what it does to other human beings.
No both the incapable L6 and former manager are white male. Both members left from our team are Asian females. This should not be generalized, but in my former team, minorities (Chinese, Indians, African Americans) are the ones that produce most results and delivered the most.
My white male manager sounds like your old manager OP. I would have to grit my teeth and sit through those credit-stealing meetings. Hasn’t happened recently though
There was a memo leaked from Amazon last year that showed that turnover rate is so high that the company might run out of people to hire in under 5 years. Warehouse workers estimated to run out in 2024 and corporate not too far behind. The turnover at Amazon is estimated in the memo to cost 8 billion+ per year. Suffice to say there may be a reckoning for Amazon this decade. It is simply too big of a company to treat it's employees like shit and expect sustainable growth.
I’d love to see this memo. Link?

Did you transfer to a team within the same org?
Yes, under the same director
Is this in aws or another org? Maybe try transferring to another org/division altogether
All internal are freezed. There are a few, but mostly for layoff people

Yeah, that's the Amazon I know too. Place is garbage.
Sounds like your new manager assessed a gap in the value stream The new manager focused on strategy (which is within scope for their role) While you focused on tactical execution (which is within scope for your role) You left the team but they followed up with you because they needed you to rework some analysis since you were the focal for it - more recently You didn't want to do it. Your new manager didn't want to do it. But your Director views this as "I don't care who does or doesn't do it , work together and figure it out " For months your former manager has been messaging you to get a pulse on the reworked items. Your former manager sees an opportunity to standardize a process and centralize whatever - and gained support from your new manager and Director (likely because it actually made sense) Conclusion: you my friend are not ready to advance into senior management as you have tunnel vision and lack the necessary leadership behaviors to excel in such a role - however, you may also fall into the category of people who have no desire to move into management (I know a 50 year old software engineer - but to each his own)
Why don’t you take some personal accountability for a change instead of blaming everyone but yourself? Grow up
Grow up indeed

Sadly this happens in many places. Amazon isn’t the only one. I experienced something very similar in my old company. Even after changing teams, I was asked to work on the old team’s requirements. The only solution in the end was to leave the company.
