I posted a poll yesterday on Amazon TC, and so many were puzzled as to why I'd move from G to A. Comments & DMs warning me to stay away from A. I was at A for 4 years and G for 3.5 now as a TPM, and here's why I think Amazon >>> Google. Background: L4 TPM in Ads & Tech Infra Why I think G is š®š®š®: - I, TPM, was allowed to write code to compensate for huge backlog pile. I write shit code. My code getting approved says a lot about "senior" and "staff" quality at G. - A lot of sr leaders from msft, amazon, and oracle pressuring to change OG Google culture - A lot of tenured lazy Googlers pushing back on new cutthroat leaders, ultimately making it impossible for anyone L5 and below to get decent work done. - It's overly attached to prestige image from 2010, still down-leveling and promo blocking. - Passive-aggressive culture. - Food is overrated At least at Amazon: - I know what I'm getting into - No wishy washy b1tchin about new work. Just get it done. - You grind 60 hrs / wk and survive? promo. - Free banana New TC: 350k

Love this point about G: Passive-aggressive culture Also adding my own point about A: Overt-aggressive culture I think OP is spot-on about G. G is a piece of šļø.

"food is overrated" - depends on the office. Some offices get mediocre food and some get amazing options As for Amazon's promo process, you definitely need a hell of a lot more than just grinding hours
I have worked at Meta and Amazon but not Google so this is a different take based on those. I liked Amazon more than Meta for the day to day work but liked the culture and benefits more at Meta. One pushback about your Google critique... My manager at Amazon wrote code but it's because he liked to so there's no guarantee non SDEs won't be pushing code. I overall think the Amazon hate is a meme at this point. I genuinely enjoyed my time there and felt like it was chill (this is org/team dependent though)
