Why does amazon have such a trashy holiday policy. I see people being miserable and still making it to office on 24th and I am sure it’s gonna be the same on 31st dec. Why can’t we can do better?! What about other companies Google, Fb, Msft?
Honestly, what do you expect from Amazon?
That’s what amazon is all about, you can describe it in one word - pathetic!!
What's the policy at Amazon that's so crappy? Serious question--I'm ignorant.
Amazon only has 6 company holidays, less than half of the 13 recognized federal/bank holidays. Amazon also does not have a holiday party, it has a post-holiday party in January. Christmas Eve is not a company holiday as it is at most companies, and you are expected to be working. I’ve been on TOS calls, handled sev-2’s, and just ordinary emails on Christmas Day at Amazon over my tenure, honestly it is normal here.
This is for AWS and non-AWS? People can just take 12/24 as a day off with accrued vacation time, can't they?
Retail companies live for the holiday shopping season. Shouldn't be a shock. This is why the holiday party is after the holidays.
Why not make Monday 24th a day off, and Monday 31st a day off, like at any normal company? But then I guess if you wanted to, you could take a day off anyways, as office will be empty
Get back to work! I can't believe you posted this during the workday. You're the reason my stocks is hurting!
Honestly it depends on the understanding between you and your manager
I have been at Amazon before and it wasn't too bad in my team over there. Definitely depends on which service you own. Overall it's quite chill at Microsoft this time of the year. When I moved here, the first Christmas was weird. Coming from Amazon I was used to the stressed environment during December and it was completely opposite at Microsoft. Most of the people were OOF half of the month.
The big difference is that Amazon is half tech and half retail. I'm in AWS, so I've got it easy this time of the year. The folks in retail not so much, since this is one of the biggest periods of the year for that side.
Out of F....acility? Wtf is this?
