Is Amazon giving fewer full time offers to those who interned this summer? Someone I know was very sure they'd get an offer but on the last day, was told some reason and didn't get it. L
Yes
> was told some reason and didn't get it. Internships are like a long interview. The reason is probably that they didn’t perform at an SDE1 level, either technically or interpersonally.
Well pretty much every week my friend's manager kept saying that she's doing great and in fact even asked whether she'd want to work at city X or city Y when full time and which month she'd like to join. Also your answer adds no value. I know how internships work and how reviews work having been both the manager and person doing the internship. My question is only to the extent of whether Amazon has cut down the % of conversions and if it was a decent decision.
What I’m saying is your friend is themself an indirection layer from whom it is possible to receive a distorted signal. I was trying to say that without saying it I guess. Sorry if it’s no help. I’ve seen lots of people ego protect around this stuff though
Because your manager can tell you they want you and ask all those and say all those but they are not the ones with the last say. They can only have one part of the vote.
At Amazon it would be a fairly bad manager who correctly thought they had a good hire on their hands, but couldn’t get it past BR review. The BR for intern->FTE review is there to make sure the hiring decision is unbiased and fact-based: a fairly easy bar to clear after a several-month internship
Yes and so that's why I'm asking if there was any decrease in the total % of conversions - for example what Facebook did. If you can tell me the answer to that, then it'll be easier for me to rule out any possibility except it being on merit.
Yes
