I recently interviewed with Amazon for sde role . They focused more on behavioral than tech side I feel . Every interview ,for the first 30-40 mins were behavioral and last 20 mins were coding round .. have they changed their interviewing pattern ? I was expecting a lot of tech questions ..
This is how interviews work here although it is up to the interviewer if they want to ask coding first or LP first
Which org and level?
There was some feedback that Amazon was ending up hiring people which don't fit the culture. So HR increased the stress on testing for leadership principles. Now we just hire psychopaths who can't code.
This is why I hate behavioural interviews. It just selects for people who are good storytellers, which is a great process if you're hiring storytellers, but not for developers.
Why not increase the number of interviews , so you can cover both
This is sad tbh. I interview at Amazon and we have 3-4 coding rounds and one system design for sde 2 and 3. Havenāt done many sde1 loops.
I had 4 rounds,2 of which were simple LC and basic story telling. Another two were intensive on system and OOP design and behavioral , So all in all, good balance I would say
Where was the interview and which org?
In Seattle for sde 2 . One was with aws and other one related to kindle content .
Same for me. Almost no coding, only LPs and then system design. One round involved coding, but it was super easy.
Yeah am not sure if there is any catch in the role . I thought I was interviewing for one team but to my surprise I was told during interview that am interviewing for two teams ..
What is LP ?
