Amazon is brilliant

One thing people need to understand that Amazon is brilliant as a company. They have such effective processes both at functional as well as management level that they just need manpower to build solid products. These processes allow them to use the employees as Lego pieces. Plug one in, overwork them, pip them when they burnout and move on to next piece. It has worked for the company till now and will continue working in future too. An employee can either choose to not work for them ever or work for them and learn the intricacies of these processes so that they can be effective some place else or even build something of their own. Though the chances of the later case happening is slim due to an uncountable number of factors in daily life. So either place your bet or just choose to ignore this company forever.

No post on Amazon is going to be taken well here. Don't bother.

Why is it such a pain to get in at Amazon in data?

Keep in mind my experience is just a small sample of the bigger picture. It’s really competitive, there are a lot of applications for every job posted. The one thing I notice the most is people with resumes that say they know a ton of different skills and tools, most of which are technical yes but irrelevant to the job. If you can tailor resumes toward the job you’re applying to it helps a lot.

I agree with this in a lot of ways. Fair or not it’s effective and is an example of Human legos

This info is more readily available than before. Anyone that has a choice is not wanting to join Amazon anymore. The coolness of technology or the customer drive is far less appealing. They have a problem to fill the top of the funnel with candidates. And it's not a short term thing to quickly turnaround.

Amazon has great ideas and work great for customers. However, if you look at the org inside, it is dysfunctional beyond imagination. Management continues to hide issues and leave them unaddressed. They scream at and backstab people who want to bring critical issues up. I worked in 2 teams and had 6 managers, not a single one of them care to know their employees performance, but still give negative feedback base on nothing. Bully actions are lead by and supported by many managers. Poor quality output. One team I worked with lost all of their devs in a months. If a startup was run this way, it would have been bankrupt multiple times.

Yet Amazon is churning out profits and stock keeps rising. This is what needs to be understood that a workplace doesn't needs to make everyone happy in order to be successful. An abusive work culture with right planning can also produce results.

Amazon QJab26 Oct 6, 2021

The point is that they punish high performing people, and leave critical issues unaddressed. That's why when you look at the work output, it is often below average.

Remember, the origin of evil is lack of humanity. I don’t think it’s brilliance to remove humanity from an equation to accomplish something that is known to be able to be done. Nothing Amazon has done has been truly innovative after the initial creation of EC2.
