I'm in the fucking loop and I just saw them pushing for a hire...and the candidate blanked and attempted a recursive approach to standard BFS. Code was completely wrong. But his LP on deliver results was strongly inclined. BR said no but HM overruled. This guy would've been auto rejected at any other fucking FAANGMULLA company. #lowerthebar I was the lunch buddy not the interviewer.
May be HM wants to hire him to be a candidate to be fired(30% quota)
Who the f is BR?
Well it’s not like we have to implement bfs... ever. It’s a nice undergrad question but not useful to people who has been out of school
Lol what does implementing BFS have to do with what he will do on a day to day basis.
And how do you test day to day basis work when fundamentals are weak ? Is day to day work making tea ?
I’m not saying this because I suck at leetcode, I’ve done over 600 questions now. BFS is rarely used. It’s a random algorthm like Suurballe's algorithm. You probably don’t know suurballes algorithm and probably shouldn’t learn it unless you one day need to implement for some reason. It’s just culture.
Amazon needs people - if BR said no , clearly HM knows that person and it’s sad it’s going through like this .you should raise this to ethics.
Have any of you people actually sat in an interview debrief? Bar raisers just play footsy with feedback and nearly always defer to the HM. “Well, I’m not inclined, HM what do you think? Do you think this candidate raises the bar or has high potential?” Is what I usually see if they’re split like this. The only time BR’s flex “rank” is when there is a bar raiser in training and they both jerk themselves off over how Amazonian they are
That might have been your experience, but I have a different one. The BRs are largely great at what they do.
For someone else, you could come across as moron. It is all relative.
HM is the candidate’s relative
There are some guys who gets in like this... and me, did whatever I can do... solved 300 LC, completed CTCI, EPI half... still got rejection on convert binary tree to LL question just because I forgot to create node in return statement. 🤣 Luck matters!!! Be humble and get that guy in OP. He might be worth of it. We never know.
I think your problem might not be that. You might give the impression that you don’t have real experience. You did too much interview question but might lack in real job experience. I suggest you should take some big project responsibility at your work and try to solve some real problems. People think leetcode is the end but it’s just a part of it.
Okay. Thanks.
This is very serious. You need let bezos know immediately. Not sure HR is the right channel for this.
Honestly, it's not important whether they know bfs on the spot or not, the interview is for whether they can adapt and learn it quickly when required to do so. Bfs is not really "CS fundamentals" it's just an algorithm, which many people who did not major in CS (or are not from CS background) never get the chance to pick up. I wouldn't be surprised if a good number of SWEs who haven't been interviewing in a while don't know bfs but if required they can probably learn it with a few days of practice and it's rarely required on the job.
Hm can’t overwrite br, can you send an email to your local br core abt this?
I haven’t seen but was told it happened for sdet by a friend... I was honestly shocked My manager in a private discussion said he would never. (In a dev team)
