please stop pretending to be one. Amazon is a 2nd tier company. It abuses its engineers, doesnt pay well (esp. in Bay Area) and is a toxic workplace. Discuss. TC: Ashamed to share.
The value of Amazon will be known when Bezos drops a couple of bananas to end WW3.
FANG had nothing to do with tiers or how nice of a place it is to work or TC or anything of the sort
Yep, FAANG is a trading term. They have been desirable companies but mostly due to great stock performance
FAANG has to do with stock performance, not employee perks/pay.
Amazon is not a second tier company, but is a second tier company for engineers.
Well said. It’s great for mediocre TPMs or QA folks looking to become a TPM and politics savy - tech illiterate SDMs.
TPMs? Mediocre? My TPM told me he thought my design was undesirable because he thought a LAMP stack is the most mature. (When I was still at amazon ofc)
Somebody please create another companies/tiers poll. Now!
And prestige
Jim Cramer coined the term FANG in 2013. The A stands for Amazon.
Correct
To be fair i feel some engineers deserve it. A lot on my team for example are weak. It's really hard to do a good job when weak engineers are given full ownership. They commit bad code.
What demographics. How are they not piped yet especially when blind says amazon is pretty good with that stuff
They aren't pipped yet because SDMs find it very hard to get new talent. A lot of top talent esp in the Bay Area do not want to join. Also they are new hires.
Just interviewed at Amazon. Holy hell everyone seemed miserable.
Blame the LPs and toxic sdms.
