From scope, impact, growth, and comp perspective, Amazon is unrivaled for post-MBA role. Prove me wrong. Consulting is great in theory but is shit in practice (I was former consultant). Also at the whim of business need. You can't choose your own path and might get stuck on some mining project for years and never build the right experiences for that golden exit op that will never come. Also all the McKinsey managers (EMs) I've seen exit into Amazon come in at the L6 (IC) level which is exactly the same as the post MBA role. In fact have seen an associate partner from McKinsey in an L7 (IC) role too! IB is looking sweeter as they had a significant comp raise and is way above consulting and tech but you are a corporate prostitute. You look good but you're being slammed and rode like female dog consistently until you're too old to handle it anymore or you see yourself become a pimp (MD). Amongst other tech companies, sure if they give you into a product/program role then maybe those are pretty cool as well but that is very difficult. But for Amazon to give MBAs a chance as PMs and have many of them succeed and drive huge impact is what makes them stand out as 1 amongst the tech firms IMO. Sure for engineers Amazon is shitty and pays you a lot less than market which hurts the brand but for us business folks, Amazon is great. Real impact, responsibility, and puts us in a big role right out of the gate. #tech #mba #consulting #IB #career
Ok
Not going to disagree, they're one of the few big tech companies that automatically start all MBAs at senior level, many others start a level down (or at least did 4-5 years ago) There are better spots (and obviously if you don't want to do tech then it's w/e), but as far as a pipeline company that will give everyone a shot regardless of background, it's an excellent pivot opportunity for MBAs who want to get into tech (like if you get a senior PM offer from a Soonicorn or other FAANG tier then sure... But it's way harder without the right background) Is there a 50% chance you're going to want to leave within a year or two? Sure, but at least you're gonna have good exit opportunities.
Theres like a 90% chance you'll want to leave MBB/IB too given the rates my peers are dropping out of those jobs 2-3 years post MBA.
The intent going into those is generally to springboard out after 2-3 years anyways though (almost guaranteed to get a cushy role ranging from Sr mgr in tech to director/vp somewhere) Just more an FYI for people who don't realize that Amazon should be treated the same way. If you happen to have a good team/setup then go ahead and try to make L7 but otherwise leverage it into another Sr PM role in big tech or a director spot at a unicorn
As a post MBA, I agree with this if you’re looking to break into tech, especially with a non tech background. For non-tech folks, PM is pretty much the most in demand tech co role and I think Amazon is the only place where you can jump right into that role post Mba without solid previous experience
Yes and no; more inline with tech L5
Yes L6, and isn't it in line if you're one of the ones who get a PMT offer? (basically some of the MBAs with a tech background get paid more than the non tech ones)
Dayum are MBA grads standards so low that they think amazons the best option? Lolol
Nah it's mostly that there are a ton of MBAs who have zero tech background (or anything related... Like they come from teach for America and shit like that), and Amazon is willing to let basically all of them have a shot at interviewing for a senior PM role
Ok that makes more sense.
In most conflicts between tech and business at Amazon it’s tech that needs to compromise. Definitely Amazon is great for MBAs.
TC or GTFO
what is TC for post mba L5?
IB pays have increased significantly? How much does a year 1 associate or a newly promoter VP make?
For post MBA, IB has increased their base to $175k at least most of the BB/EB have/likely will. You can expect a year end bonus of 50%-100% of base pay. Post MBA first years should target around $300k total comp.
