I know Blind and even the larger tech community have an intense dislike (borderline hatred) for Amazon, its hiring practices and work culture which shows up in the firm's abysmal ratings. Countless threads have been devoted to hating Amazon - from the intense PIP culture to Managers who embody the very worst to high URA/churn rates to the heavy reliance on H1 workforce and all the associated baggage that comes with it. Having said that, Amazon is one of the few firms where no layoffs have taken place. The firm is on strong footing and is still hiring in spite of all the layoffs happening everywhere else - Snap, Robinhood, Wayfair, Shopify, Coinbase, Peloton, Better, Carvana etc. Moreover our stock has held up reasonably well compared to many other firms. So to all the Amazon haters out there, before you go off on a rant on how evil Amazon/Bezos is or the fascination with PIP/URA, please know that thousands of folks work here every day making great products that are to the benefit of everyone. Isn't that in itself a sign of the confidence that folks place in Amazon? I have come across folks who have had to eat humble pie and ask for referrals after dissing Amazon in the past. PS: This is not HR or some Amazon hardo. Edit: 480k, solid team, great culture, no layoffs on the horizon

Quitting this Slave life
Thank you Suresh for this promotion!!
Please change the name, people at Walmart get offended 😂
Would you say maybe they're trying to get into FAANG / Google first, and accept Amazon as a downlevel if they don't get anything else?
Bro, people at unprofitable companies live in fear of layoffs once every few years during a recession. Amazonians live in fear of PIP every day.
As a visa slave I can confirm and I hate the stress it brings
@visa slave, I heard from a visa folk that he appreciates pip better than unannounced layoffs- gives time
Even a poll that allows multiple selections can't overshadow people's love for Amazon
Why do you say it’s borderline?
Why on earth amazon needs a layoff when 50% of the company leaves willingly or unwillingly in just 1 year. That to me is the largest invisible layoff ever
That’s all the crap people leaving
That’s all crap people being hired then?! So the interview bar is very low!
You can't compare Amazon to those small/early stage companies. Those are high risk-high returns companies. Amazon is medium returns-medium risk companies. However, agree that working for a big company in bad economy is safer than working in smaller companies at this time.
So many words yet no TC
Earth's Best Employer doesn't need you to defend its reputation. Money talks, they pay top dollars because they're never the candidate's first choice.
So would the same top dollar logic apply to 2sigma, JaneStreet, Meta,...?
Amazon is laying off 6% of it's around 100k size work force (around 6000 people) - be it recession or not. I don't know what you are saying. "Amazon to layoff 6000 corporate workers in an attempt to lower costs" - this would be a 100% accurate and legal headline. I've seen some really good people being put under the bus for meeting the URA quota. That's layoff.
That’s 100k from fulfillment center. You should disclose that
100k is corporate only. Fulfillment employees are not included.
amazon lays off every 6 mo they dont need to layoff when ppl quit everyday and they pip bottom 10% anyway
And you work in?
I worked 4.5 years in Amazon, can confirm this. And its not the bottom that leaves its good engineers that leave bothered by politics and promo architecture. In ome of my arch reviews I literally heard "his architecture is probably better because its more complex" That guy that said that is senior principal....
