https://mobile.twitter.com/keipritsker/status/1509934775250964491 What I see is an even bigger demand of ML/AI engineering to build warehouse robots.
It’s not good for anyone, except some short-term benefits for those workers (Amazon will lawyer up). Expect delays in shipping, prime price goes up, no 2-day shipping for New York area anymore. Stock goes down.
BS. It’s absolutely good for the employees who will be better protected and perhaps treated less like robots.
Which union really worked?
The ones that gave you the 8 hour work day and the weekend.
The union is just out of one warehouse in one location, isn’t it? This won’t do anything at all to the stock price. Retail is already a net loss for the company as is.
It's good move for worker rights. Amazon retail business will slow down if more unions get formed, since every benefit the unions negotiate is going to pinch their baselines. To save face, Amazon would move to market place model internally . That is, spin out separate internal companies, that are registered as a seller on Amazon. This keeps the unions at a distance from Amazon. (Divide and conquer).
It’s definitely good for the workers. I’ve negotiated on behalf of a corporation with a union. You’d be surprised how much power a union can have. These workers have been exploited for a long time now. I don’t see a short term massive hit in AMZN, particularly because most of the value is associated with AWS.
