Received an offer for a position at Amazon that is much lower than expected in terms of base salary. I really like the team but it would be a significant pay cut from other opportunities I’m in interviews for. Hiring Managers, when making an offer on a candidate, how high can you typically go to increase the base pay if presented a competing offer?
Can u share level and offer details? It’s hard to advise the % leeway without knowing current numbers.
Share your level and offer details and can give more specifics (Amazon gives you all cash year 1 and 2 to make up for fact that initial grant is mostly vested in year 3 and 4)
When I got my first offer I turned it down because of base salary. They came back with a new offer that was 3.5% higher TC, with lower equity and bonus, but 17% higher base pay. I had no other offer other than my current salary.
Do not join amazon, it will destroy you!
he's from Meta, he'll be fine. Meta is probably worse.
In what world is Meta worse lmao Last I checked Meta doesn’t have frugality as a core value
Amazon has separate bands for base as well as TC. Managers cannot breach the base bands these days. During the 2021-22 madness, they could do 120%. But haven’t heard anyone doing that now. They are limiting to 80-100% of base What’s level and role are you getting the offer for?

Can I slack off as E9 at Meta?
It’s Amazon. Known for their lowball tactics. In an economy that sucks for tech. Good luck. 🍀👍
