Currently at MSFT level 60. Have been one of the top performers but have been getting “no budget for promo” since October and have been told that there won’t be budget till next fiscal year (aka September I think?). Current WLB is good, but the project is somewhat boring (deep in Azure). Have an offer from Amazon (AWS) for L5 for the team that seems more interesting than my current one and seems like a good option for growth, but scared for my WLB because of notorious Amazon culture. Is the WLB that bad at AWS? Is it worth it to switch? YOE: 3 TC: 180
Worth the 100K difference in Seattle. You are early in your career, you can manage the wlb.
If you’re a hard worker and know how to manage competing priorities you’ll do just fine at Amazon. While at Amazon, my WLB was the best I ever had in my career, but I’ve heard that it is heavily dependent on your direct manager. If I were you, I’d schedule a meeting with the direct manager (which is an option to relay to the recruiter), to get a feel for the managers expectations.
+1 on very direct manager dependent for WLB. There are some great managers though at Amazon and they definitely exist.
What’s overall RSU grant?
278k for L5? Push for 320k average per year Your 2nd year TC drop will sting
I think median for l5 on levels fyi is 260k. Already negotiated up. Don’t think they would go to 320k that easily 2nd year comp should be the same as the first year? There’s a second year bonus and RSUs.
No Sign on from Amazon?
Microsoft level 60 to Amzn L5 is awesome! I would take that offer. Congratulations!
Thank you for joining my team. I was debating who to PIP and then you accepted the offer to make my decision easy. Looking forward to PIP you and ship ur $ss back to your home country.
Congrats on the offer, how did the interview go?
Lol 100K pay bump will be worth your troubles if they even materialize
