I'm level 64 at Microsoft and I'm usually getting top bonus (1.8-2.0 times target). I'm also at Microsoft for a long time and the vesting is coming at 80k per year, for a total comp a little lower than 300k. Amazon is offering me 20k over what I make at Microsoft base. Money wise is not a big deal (although I'm not going to sneer at 20k). How are bonuses at Amazon? Are they achievable? Other than money, are there any advantages working for Amazon vs Microsoft?
Amazon bonuses suck. no stock refreshes. no raises except the very top of the top. tread carefully. read the NYTimes piece.
LOL, no cash bonus but generous stock refreshes.
What is this, Call of Duty? What's does a Level 64 equate to in the real world?
Depending on which group its just below director level (65)
Good to know.
Sleep > 20k over base
Ur actual pay is similar. Late and small 401k matching, pay out of pocket for insurance premium, no Espp. Also no annual bonus. That means Microsoft is the better place for you. Contrary to what people believe, majority of exMicrosoftees at Amazon are former low performers and laid off testers.
Amazon doesn't have bonuses
Thanks for all the answers - it looks like is not worth it unless the AMZN stock skyrockets.
It's good experience but if you're working in Azure or such then it doesn't make sense to switch. You're at top end for your pay range and could presumably get to Principal there soon, at which point you can jump around to great opportunities elsewhere.
Counter with projected bonuses built into your salary if they say no, what’s to lose?
That's close to the point of my question. Let's say Amazon approximately manages to meet my total compensation: is it better in any other dimension? Is it worth the bother of changing jobs? I'd certainly lose some momentum. I'm respected by my team and "nearby" teams and I know how things work. That has some worth. If so move, is what I'll get equally worth it?
since when 64 gets 300k in MSFT? what does 65 get?
It's unusual. This is the result of four years with top rewards, a couple of non-review stock awards and stock price appreciation. I know L65s that brag to me about taking 200k home.
since when L65 gets 500k...... this is not MSFT
