I notice this pattern in Amazon interview. They buzzed me for an interview and wanted me to do an online test. I said buzz off, will only do in person interviews. Also they seemed to have burned out most of the talent in Seattle and want to hire more code monkeys. Cause they seem so desperate. Then the recruiter proposed a direct onsite interview. I am thinking of going for the interview, but getting bad vibes from the company
'Buzz off I only do interviews'? You seem to be full of yourself.
What does “code monkeys” mean? Online or laptop test matches more SDE daily work than whiteboard and can also be effective remotely. I predict more and more company will include that as part of the process. It is a good thing if it can filter out people that talk beautifully but unable to focus and implement solid code.
The online test is at the discretion of the team recruiting you. I received the same OA with a friend for different teams. My recruiter confirmed my availability for onsite dates even before I even do the test. Even though I did a lot worse (like, my code doesn't compile) than him, I got onsite the next morning while he was rejected a week later. I suspect they didn't look at my OA at all. Onsite definitely gave me a vibe that they care more about personality and behavioral than coding ability so I would beg to differ.
Code monkeys are much better than those talking monkeys who leverage other people’s work and own and brag about some work that they did not actually do.
Bezos recruiter
It is much worse than that. People that bullshit year around actually provide negative values and badly influence the team culture to the point that crappy code shipped and team imploded. Glad that amazon does not have such “architect” title. Unfortunately promo-driven made some SDE 3 behave just like that. Project suffers with poor quality and team suffers with severe on-calls while bullshitter shamelessly claim “leadership”.
I did a Microsoft online test after a recruiter invite for hiring event and did well but got ghosted for a long time then rejected for no reason. Not sure how you relate online test to code monkeys and blame this on Amazon though. If you don't like Amazon just say no. All your(or your pretending peer's) replies in the comments seems like you're a jumping asshole attacking everyone who has different opinions than yours.
Lol OP step down from your high horse and return to reality please.
Fuck you bezos money maker
Based on my interview experience, every company wants code monkey. Code monkey sells well.
That sux. Microsot is not like that
Better prepare for those 14 leadership principles , each interviewer will probe deep about one or two of those principles
Which team are you talking about? AWS seems burnout heavy. I got great vibes from the Alexa team.
AWS
Alexa is a great org. Lots of cool stuff happening in Boston.
