I have been working with Amazon almost 3 years now. This is the first time my manager added me to the Focus zone for performance improvement. I have few questions if someone can guide me: 1. In 2020 my manager never mentioned about my performance improvement in any 1:1 meetings and he was very happy with my work ethics and deliverables. There was not a single Warning I can quote for my poor performance. He disclosed this thing during our performance review and I was totally surprised and shocked.Where should I raise my voice ? With whom I should discuss and explain my point of view ? 2. In my performance review my manager was not able to satisfy me with his feedback. And he proposed an informal coaching plan. He set the goals for next 2 months and I delivered the targets well before the time. And I have received overwhelming appreciation from my entire team and my manager during was happy with my performance. I asked him about my performance he verbally confirmed that you will be out of this performance improvement phase and he will send the document to the higher management. He surprised me once again and shared wrong feedback with the higher management and pushed me towards pivot. I havenât received any communication from the HR far. However, Iâm so pissed and stressed to understand whatâs going on . How to get out of this situation and how to move forward ? Should I contact HR first or my skip level manager ? What would be the effective way to get justice ?#amazon #amazon
Document Document Document! Appeal the Pivot, be calm and composed. Present all evidence in the appeal review. All the reviewers will be your level or higher. The reviewers only have one question to answer to HR at the end of review "Did the candidate meet expectations?" Prove that you have, get written feed back from 2 peers! State clearly in the review that your manager had verbally confirmed that you did meet expectations.
I personally have known people that appealed and won!
I havenât received the pivot plan from HR yet. It was verbally shared by my manager with me. Should I reach out to HR before getting the pivot or wait for HR to reach out to me first ?
Effective way to get justice is to LC and move on, preferably after you get out of pivot but itâs fine if itâs during pivot.
Take the PIP severance. LC and GTFO.
Never ever go to HR. You need something against the manager. Hire detective to see if he goes to escorts. đ
What is the right time for appeal ? Once I get the pivot plan from HR or I should reach out to them now based on my manager verbal communication?
Wait for them to get to back to you! Don't initiate anything yourself - that gives you time to stay calm and create an action plan!
as per new rules, you cannot formally appeal before completing the PIP. informally you can reach out to your sr manager or hr. but they already know about your case, and they approve the Pivot document prepared by your manager. if they have approved the doc, then it clearly means that they are satisfied with your managerâs judgement.
I feel sorry for the employees for the shit Amazon puts them throughđ. We work at Amazon but have to fight the same company with hope that internal audit will clear your name. Wtf are we doing ?
rip so i shouldnt sign the amazon offer over microsoft and bloomberg
if you are looking to expose your managerâs wrongdoings, then it wont help to go to HR or Sr SDM. they all are colluded in this. Unfortunately there is no justice for the employee. If you are willing to play it dirty then take it to your director or even above. But keep in mind there is a tp999 probabiltiy of you going out of Amazon irrespective of you complaining about your manager or not. and going by your story that manager was happy with your performance in coaching and still pushed for pivot, clearly shows he will fail you in PIP as well with fabricated data points and unreasonable deadlines and expectations.
Never trust a word from your Amazon managers mouth as they are working in their own self interest only. Amazon managers have mandatory URA quota to meet and taking you off the Dev List / Focus / Coaching would not help them with that. There is no appeal against entry to Pivot / PIP and your success in PIP will be judged by the same Amazon manager who just threw you under the bus and has URA quota to meet that they tagged you to help meet. Appeal is possible if you fail PIP but itâs tightly constrained to if you actually met the PIP goals only and nothing else. To be honest, this is all on your Amazon permanent record now even if successful and impacts your comp prospects, promo prospects, internal transfer and makes you a repeat target. When Pivot / PIP is presented, most folks take the Tier 1 severance option instead as your company relationship is already broken. Get a great external offer and never look back. Position yourself into hiring panels and deny any tenured ex Amazon manager entry, as nobody needs this toxicity spreading.

Exactly thatâs my concern is, if the same manager judges me during the PIP and he already made his mind to cut the resource. It is hard to change his mind. It seems like in Amazon Manager is the king of his kingdom. And we are the working bees with less to no support. Iâm looking for external jobs , however I also want to explain my point of view to the HR/Management. I have done nothing wrong I should have chance to explain myself. This whole process is so stressful.

Do you have your inputs and concerns and progress status for prior effort documented? If yes, you have a basis for escalating to skip, VP and HR, but this is likely not going to make any difference. It will come to you getting on PIP and exiting, perhaps after the appeal fails. That's when you need to not sign any documents, forgo the severance, and use your situation to go public. This is a tough road.
