My wife accepted an offer from Amazon and apparently her comp is at the higher end of L5. The role is in London. Based on her YoE, she should have been L6, but there was no room for negotiation. In this scenario, how difficult is it to get a promotion within a year at Amazon? She is a data scientist. #amazon #offer
No company will give a promotion in one year
FB will if you’re good
Salesforce will.
Uhhh loool. I heard if somebody is misleveled they can work with their manager in the first 6 months to address that. But somebody should verify this. That being said it's unlikely
TC?
She wont, unless the vp conceds that there was a mislevel in hiring, which requires a bunch of paperwork and a motivated manager. If your recruiter is promising a promo in under a year, they are lying
Likely 2-3 years minimum.
1.5 is possible. I’ve got promotion twice after that amount of time.
At Amazon?
Should’ve been strongly against the down-leveling while negotiating.
Promo to L6 isn't easy and likely will need 2+ years of evidence. But if you look on the bright side of it, she has 4 years to get promoted and her comp really won't go up even when she does! I have seen maybe 1 mislevel readjustment (happens in 6 months) in a 150 person org over 3 years. Very rare, don't count on it.
How it has to do with leadership?
