Amazon appears to be another hiring spree. How accurate are the Glassdoor reviews?
Agree with the joke
Not a joke. More like validation for declining Amazon. I could possibly overlook the commute if it were a better place to work. From what I've picked up I enjoy living life too much to work there. Oddly in the feline world xxy is a rarely found gender descriptor for male calico cats.
Is prime now a good team to join?
I don't know anyone on the team, but any retail website team will assuredly be a challenging. Might be better if your focus was on the app or something.
Prime now is notoriously bad. All top talent coworkers went there because they were essentially plucked and all have left to a new team within 1 year or quit Amazon entirely.
Some Amazon groups recently institute hour logging that I only heard in China accurate to hour of where we spend time. If you disagree or pissed off about it, you are the next one to let go and it is so easy to fire people in Amazon than other company. Please discount the RSU that you will get in the last two years as chances are you will have to choose btw feeling very unhappy or be fired without unemployment Insurnace plus difficulty to find another job after fired
Why hour logging? Why do they want record that their salaried employees work so much more than 40 hrs per week?
We started hour logging in Ops (non-tech), so now I'm purposefully capping myself at 40 hours per week because I don't want it to look like I'm okay with 50-60/week being the norm.
Amazon is always on a hiring spree. Working there is rough and everyone leaves after two years. This means the company is always on the hiring treadmill. So long as they can get college hires and L1 transfers from Amazon India, they are happy.
Mostly all the teams are short staffed because of the attrition and HR does nothing here...
Don't count the on the RSUs as part of your comp. just don't. So many people keep trying to just hang on for one more vest. Also 401k match, which is 50% of up to 4% only vests after 3 calendar years of 1000 hours. So don't count on that either. It really is brilliant how the comp is so inflated to lure people in but hardly anyone gets it, and the hours are so long it's not much better than some other company you can count on working 42ish hrs a week.
This is so accurate! I have been at aws for 2 minths and want to leave so bad but the rsu is making it so hard! Thats a lot of money but i cant touch it! It really sucks
Also, they are recruiting more aggressively internationally and outside of Seattle because the poor reputation is so well established here. I dread telling people I work at Amazon because the first question they ask about how employees are treated.
Wow this is a sad thread. If it's that bad you should all leave. Or at least switch teams. I'm having a great time, working on cool stuff with good people, and I still eat dinner with the family every night. Glassdoor experiences were probably true for those people but then there are two sides to every story. Some of those people probably sucked at their jobs and so ended up leaving. People like me that are happy don't go post about it on Glassdoor.
I know what you're saying, but Amazon's employee reviews and attrition are ridiculously awful, even compared to other companies with bad raps. You might be having a good time but that doesn't negate the disproportionate negative experiences of others.
Which org/ team are you with?
It is indeed that bad. Colleagues from Amazon here loves to share their stories of how terrible Amazon is. Each team has its own unique flavor. But all bad

Why is our country owned by Israel? I don't want my tax dollars fund genocide. How can we stop this nonsense?
What do they say? Really it depends on your group. Retail & AWS are often pretty high intensity with significant operational load. The Echo team is crushing it but putting in some hours to make it happen I understand. We have so many groups hiring it could be anything. Talk to the hiring manager, they are pretty honest about things.
reviews are pretty consistent on abusive even darwinian culture, no work/life balance, stack ranking screwing good employees, high burn out, etc. the reviews are up for anyone to read. nice job on echo, dot, and Alexa though. don't quite understand the dash buttons.
It can be rough, but I think it totally depends on your manager. It's a big company, there are a lot of shit managers. The hiring bar for engineers isn't amazing, but it's not bad. The hiring bar for managers is a joke.
