SDE 5, YOE 9 145k + 200 RSU (400k) + 150k joining bonus that makes the TC ~282k So what happens after the 4th year? A promotion will get a higher base. But there will be no joining bonus or bulk RSU(?) Then TC would be 160k+10 RSU (20k) i.e. 180k?! or would you rather join a company with TC ~230k with assured yearly increase of 5%?
You are granted new RSUs with each yearly perf review (typically starting after 2 years, and vesting 2 years out). Talk to your recruiter; they should be able to explain all this to you.
A friend of mine told me that it never gets beyond 8-10%. And sometimes it’s compensated with the appreciation of the RSU market value!
Wondering how a Oracle guy would know the answer though. Anyways. So it seems if you get into amazon, start giving interviews on the 4th year to possibly in other FANG company (Apple excluded). [sorry new to this FANG business]
Comp for first 4 years is basically set in your offer letter. After that, your rating every year determines your “target” and they give you stock vesting one year and two years out to *try* and hit that target. Now here’s the fucked part: ANY rating except Top Tier, and your target is bottom of he band for your role/level. That’s 180k for SDE2 in non premium market. Top tier, rating = top of band, 240k with same parameters. It’s super anti employee but hey we’re not quitting en masse yet so
Not quite. TT targets top of band. HV+ targets 30 percent range penetration. HV targets bottom of band. LE gets nothing. Managers are free to override - I do this extensively to engineer comp on my team to retain strong HVs. I juggle stock from my budget to keep those who we need to retain and don't slavishly adhere to recommendations from comp system.
Yes amzn TC is static unless you get promoted.
Why do you say static? It’s coming down by 30%
There is a target. Your performance evaluation for your level will set that target. Your base + value of vesting RSUs will be calculated for the next year, and addition RSUs will be granted as necessary to hit that target.
You can always jump ship after 2 years. Why 200 RSU is 400k?
You get bananas
Correction, you get bananas or get to hand out bananas
This is an interesting offer. Compare it with my L6: Base: 155k Bonus: 340k RSUs: 215 Your L5 is very similar to my L6 after the first two years, but way under before that!
What's SDE stand for?
Software development engineer
What location is this for?
You mean L5 right ? L5 is SDE 2
It means that you should explore your opportunity elsewhere then, to put it nicely. Or, simply, it's your time to pack your shit and get the fuck out.
