Don't believe haters. I'm sure some in bad teams having a bad time, but those having a bad time are much more likely to be vocal and complain. I work 40 hours a week and have done so for past 3 years. Pay is amazing. My thoughts on Amazon negativity: Lots of people at Amazon complain over trivial inconveniences and act like life is so difficult even though they are spoiled and being paid crazy money. For example, we have people complaining about the difficulty of paying about $200 a month in parking for RTO 3 days a week...at a company that pays new grads $200k... even though they can take public transit for free...These are the kind of "struggles" you hear around here. Lots of people complain about the toxic culture that originates from the mandatory PIP. Parking fee is least of the concerns. You got a good team maybe. Consider yourself lucky. Talking about the pre layoff times. Right now, almost every company has some sort of a mandatory layoff
Here's my view on the "toxic culture" thing... I only hear this concept from Blind. That's it. I haven't experienced "toxic culture". Mandatory PIP is there but I don't really think about it, I just do my job. It doesn't change how I work. I've never been a bottom performer in any job I have done and the same holds true at Amazon. May I get PIP one day? Who knows. Maybe. But I give 0 fucks. I'll collect my severance from the PIP and move on.
Wait till you are on pip
The very first comment busted your bubble, you prick!
toxic culture + double standard manager + amazon stack ranking makes people in the same group attack each other
OP - no point trying to have a rational conversation. Blind has been mostly an echo chamber of dissatisfied Amazonians. Only negativity gets amplified here. People want high salary, and they want high perks, and WFH, and some employees look for overemployment also. I do not know why dissatisfied people stay in a company and sulk. It is bad for company culture, and I have seen it before (previous company). People do not realize they are also contributing to the toxicity, and making their own lives also difficult with this constant negativity.
Because of $$$
+1 I think Amazon would become a better place with all these haters leaving the company.
So what?? Your team/manager/WLB is great. There are teams where people work way less than 40hrs a week, that doesn't mean Amazon is a great company. People having bad experiences should be able to vent here. Many people are not as lucky as you and few other teams got.
More work is fine. Parking is bearable. Having to fight teammates and enduring backstabbing is unacceptable. No thank you. I can eat two meals a day for the rest of my life. Nature earth has enough for everyone. There is no hunger games here.
Oracle - there is nothing called free lunch. But one can try for a different company for lesser TC. That said, the culture and entry bar may surprise some. Example: domain knowledge is often not considered in Amazon and engineers are given more chance to try out new things. Startups and even contracting companies often look for specialized skills, certifications, and specific years of experience as basic screening. Culture is team dependent. A friend of mine on visa joined OCI, but needed to leave within a couple of months in 2022 since his team-mates were ganging up upon him. Thankfully market was still hot and he got a job quickly. But that does not mean OCI is bad in general. Most of our experiences we here are anecdotal. Positive experiences rarely get shared, while negative experiences get discussed widely.
I agree that a lot depends on the individuals in a team. But, it's the agressive pip policy which really creates the situation. This is what creates the hunger games. Some teams are more aggressive in this survival. Some less. Now coming to free lunch part. Every human is capable to walking and fetching food. Bare min wage workers can easily buy grocery and live a lux life. Food is given by nature. Since it perishes no one can hoard it unlike assets. Food is always free for anyone who is alive and minimally healthy
HR
I am an ex Amazon and can confirm that it was the worst company I ever worked for. Culture is absolutely worst of the worst with people worshipping managers like there is no tomorrow. In the end, only the 2 who were managers love were spared
100%, so many bootlickers ready to backstab you or call you out for their own benefit
It's a drug deal. You won't be happy when the TT ratings dry up. Congrats on being the top 15% for now
Wait, you guys have to pay for parking at work?
Yes. It's a downtown building so parking ain't free. $68 a month + $12 a day parked. A real struggle on my 300k TC I tell ya.
Dayum!!!
