Amazon verbal sde 2 offer
Had a chat today with amazon recruiter post on site and he told me the team will be extending me an offer. Will get it this week in a few days. He explained how the comp package works at amazon etc and then asked me what I expect. I said around $200k TC. Is that too much? He said to expect around $170k. Is that low for sde 2 in Seattle? Thoughts Around 2.5 YOE, the whole time at msft TC 155k (got little stock when I joined unfortunately) but amzn doesn't know this
My SDE2 offer from Amazon was also around 240K

Why would the low ball me? Because my interview perf was shit (which it kinda was)? Or do they just try to always lowball?
You might have been downleveled to L4 because of your interview. They don’t usually lowball as far as I know - I got exactly what I asked for and should have asked for more (240K)

You bombed the interview and you are being Downleveled. 170k is near top band of L4 and they are going to offer you that
Let's say they indeed are giving me L4.. which it appears they are.. can I convince them to give me L5? I have competing offer from startup with higher TC.. or what else may work?
From my experience, no. Salary are negotiable but not level. Maybe 1% time they up-level you but almost zero probability
I was told $250k should be fine last week by aws recruiter, although work ex is like 3.5yrs but you asked too low.
Super low. I have less experience than you and am making 240k as an SDE2
I though so too.. to be honest I was surprised I got an offer since the interview went so so.. so probably that's the reason. In that case do they have to offer something that low? I hopefully have a competing offer from fb coming this week so maybe I can negotiate heavily
