Got SDE2 offer at Amazon AWS and Senior Software Engineer offer at Capital One. Amazon TC is more than Capital One but lots of horror stories at Amazon and apparently better WLB at Capital One. Is taking the lower TC worth it? current TC 160K, 3 YOE, dont need visa
editted
OP you are currently at nbc?
Are you a glutton for punishment? Get a third option.
Cap one is amzn light but with less pay and waaaaaaay less resume appeal afterwards. If you must take one then go for higher TC
What do you mean by Amazon light? Is the pip culture as bad?
Pip culture is getting stronger, wlb is getting worse, probably due to all the Amazon execs cap1 is hiring Brutal mid year evals here, probably gonna be an ugly eoy too.
How does 3 YOE for SDE2 get you at 200k base range?
not base, both offers are TC (base, signon bonus, stock)
Gotcha. You might wanna fix your survey. That was highly misleading
Is AWS hiring?
Yeah, I applied a few months ago and just did my loop yesterday
how did you do the loop yesterday and already have offer? I don’t think we are paying $300k for SDE2
If you made it for sde2 at amazon i would negotiate for lead software engineer at c1 money will be same then . Much less pressure and good growth if you are not in a shitty org . I joined amazon from c1 i can tell you can forget abt WLB
Lead engineer is like a tech lead so def more responsibility than sde2. Def money might be comparable but not the responsibility
Both trash companies - but take the Amazon offer
C1 is a decent company
C1 is a low paying - high ego company’s it’s a bad combo - they think they’re a tech company because they use AWS. If they dropped whatever ego they have to what’s expected for a bank then yeah I’d say it’s okay
What team? If it’s Auto/FS then run. Also you could probably go to Amazon for like 1 year and then come to C1 upleveled with a remote exception. They’re rolling the red carpet out for ex-amazons. Unfortunately bringing their culture along with them.
Can you refer me for a role at capital one?
Amazon but ready to leave in one year and get a doctor for your mental health
That’s a big difference. Stick it out for a year. Even if you get pipped, you get sign on and severance and then try to move back to CO. Difficult to do if you’re on visa though
Plus Amazon experience might be more useful to get future opportunities
Also, CO is also chaotic and unsafe according to a friend of mine who is working there
