My wife recently got offers from Amazon, LinkedIn and Splunk. All are front-end SWE roles. Background: MS + 7.5 Yoe (small company in SJ) Current TC: 220k 1.Splunk P4 (cloud), San Francisco office Base: 185k Bonus: 15% RSU: 325k / 3 yrs No sign on TC: 321k Recruiter said it potentially can go up to 340k. 2. Amazon AWS sagemaker SDE2, East Palo Alto office Base: 183k RSU: 76 shares / 4 yrs Sign on: 108k/yr1, 80k/yr2 TC: $300k/yr1 3. LinkedIn senior SWE (LTS team), Sunnyvale office Base: 185k Bonus: 10% RSU: 300k / 4 yrs Signon: 50k TC: 284k (1st year: 328k including signon) Still waiting for interview results from Netflix/Apple SPG/Square/Plaid/Confluent/Carta. Heard Amazon AWS has bad WLB and PIP culture, so she prefers Splunk and LinkedIn at this moment. Questions: 1. What is the max offer we can push for Splunk & LinkedIn? Any room for negotiation for stocks/sign-on? 2. Between Splunk & LinkedIn, which one is better for career growth and next move to better company? 3. For RSU refresh, how is it for Splunk, Amazon AWS and LinkedIn? I heard Splunk has generous refresh, what is the typically target? Is the annual refresh invested over 3yrs now? LinkedIn seems to only offer refresh for top25%, can someone from LinkedIn confirm? Amazon is unclear if there will be any refresh. 4. How difficult is it to transfer to another team in Splunk? My wife wants to transfer to San Jose office, not sure how long and how hard is it? Thanks very much for helping out!
Weird to see 3 years for RSU, thought 4 was the standard ?
They switched to 3 years vesting recently
All the offers look within 20k range from mean so I wouldn’t worry too much about number and instead pick them company where she loves - team, manager, work and decide based on that as that will help in long term
Linkedin could improve it on the signon maybe rsu but not much more. You are already close to the top of the offers I have seen. If I was you I would pick on your project interest or manager, offers are kind of similar and company performance can wipe out the difference very easily.
Thank you for your comment. How does the RSU refresh work at LinkedIn? What is the typical RSU grant you can get each year?
No guarantee refresh, depends on how much you are getting paid, on the median for your role, your performance and the company performance. Kind of similar to Amazon. I have got refresh every year but is not enough to not have a cliff later unless you get promoted. In your case with 7 years you will need to get promoted to staff to get anything meaningful.
Stay away from AWS if you really want to thrive peacefully and grow
Splunk .Their stock price isnt overvalued
Frontend and apps have great wlb at LinkedIn only beat by Google. Avoid infra here like plague. They make you work like FB with Intuit pay.
Good to know, thanks! I like LinkedIn a lot but the pay gap is large compared to splunk offer. Do you know how much more RSU and sign on I can push for?
Unless your interview performance was stellar they won't go higher. Highest offer I have seen for sr Swe is 185/450/85.
Avoid AWS at all costs
Come to LI and enjoy life. Don’t expect too much refresh though.
Is there any room to negotiate the LinkedIn offer?
As far as I know, LinkedIn might not compete offers from Amazon or Splunk.
