Context: Frontend role(entry level for both)/ 3+ YoE 1. Amazon AWS (around $180k TC) TX location Initial offer: $140k base $36+k bonus(year 1) $25+k bonus(year 2) 745 RSUs over 4 years (5%, 15%, 40%, 40%) 2. McKinsey (around $140 1st yr) TX location Final offer: $116+k base $21k+ bonus(including Sign on bonus, performance and relocation) No RSUs My thoughts: Amazon + TC + big tech company so will get more learning - WLB / PIP - PTO (i guess 10days but not 100% sure) McKinsey + good culture and other benefits are better (401k plan, heath insurance) + can get promoted earlier and if i need to switch any other role (like PM) they’re very supportive + PTO 19days - low TC compare to other - slow career growth as it’s not tech company I would appreciate your response and clarifying comments. Few questions: 1. Is there any room to negotiate Amazon offer? 2. Already accepted McKinsey’s offer but can i go for renegotiate? 3. Is it possible to get front loading RSU (35,30,20,15) or regular vesting (25,25,25,25)? 4. Amazon can start the GC process from day 1. McKinsey will start after 18months. I also have final rounds with Apple next week. #tech #frontend #ui #swe #softwaredevelopersalary #mckinsey #amazon #amazonaws #aws #negotiation #negotiateoffer #negotiate #offer
Consulting and good culture? Lol If Amazon is FEE I, then you can at least get another 10k
Thus shouldn’t be a question
If you're a software developer of any kind and you're considering big companies, FAANG is the way to go to learn as much as you can. Especially if you're early in your career.
Is OP living in the late 90’s? That’s the only way this is a serious question.
Pretty sure you have more than 10 days of PTO. I was in Canada, where the minimum set by law is 10 days, and we all had 21 days (6 use or lose), increasing with tenure. Amazon is one of easiest companies to change role in. The culture at consulting companies is completely trash (source: worked at one, friends worked at others). Not sure where you got that from. Amazon is a much better choice, and will also make it much easier to get into other big tech companies in future.
right the confusion is PTO is just 1 category of days off while some companies call everything pto. For Amzn need to add pto, vac, sick. Amzn is not lacking there even after accounting for holidays. Less official holidays but more flex holidays to make up.
It's always better to be at a tech company that considers tech to be its core than a consulting company where you are a just a cost center. Even the best company like McKinsey, you'll have none of the opportunities of consultants and none of the investment that McKinsey puts into them (free mba etc...)
Don’t come here for tech unless you are brain damaged
I love the user name.
@XXLthicc, May I know your team? Or DM me
McKinsey is a great company. But I don’t know what you mean by good culture. Do you wanna have 9 PM meetings? Is that a good culture. Rest is great
I worked at both companies extensively so feel free to DM me. Right off the top of my head, if both roles are Eng roles, Amazon without a second thought. Think about down the road. Your value as an engineer or a PM is much higher and you’re a lot more mobile with step function improvements in comp if you’re at amazon vs McK. Different story if you were choosing between amazon PM or McK consultant this early in your career. Then McK wins. FEE at McK will not teach you any management skills either
Thanks for insight!!

what u mean opp to learn management skills?
It's a management consulting company- so it's probably a management consulting/ front end engineer position?
my guess is FEE for tools they’re building
