Got new grad offers for both, amazon is 160k tc Seattle and vmware is unconfirmed but most likely 150-165k tc for the launch program and in Palo Alto. Interned at VMware before so I know the team and liked them, whereas amazon will be a random team that’ll be assigned later. The main benefit of amazon is the resume value and tc since less taxes and lower col in Seattle. I feel like I’ll learn a lot more at amazon and it has a better resume value, but the risk of one of the bad teams is making me hesitant. #vmware #amazon
When you are a new grad, try to be in an environment where you can learn the most. Total comp is the wrong criteria to make choices early on in your career. Think long term.
I agree that’s why I highlighted amazon has the resume value and will probably learn a lot more there. The main downside is I don’t want to end up on one of the awful teams you always read about on here and be stuck in Seattle hating the job
you can't learn a lot if you're gonna be PIP'ed 6 months in
wow i thought amazon would be voted the most and its barely above vmware. wtf have you done amazon. 4 years ago, the results would have been hella different
$AMZN put me on PIP in the 2nd week :'(
why even consider amazon?
Propel salary is tier 1 in bay area
When you go to the team selection process at amazon, you can say no to teams you don’t like. There are tons of SDE openings, so if you get a bad vibe, just ask for another team. Also, there’s no minimum tenure to switching teams. A partner team had an SDE leave to another team after 1 week
