3rd and final post regarding the matter. I finally got my return offer from Amazon. I’m now in a position to choose whether to value a new experience at vanguard and probably learn a lot or stay at amazon. amazon told me they will promote me within 6-12 months to L5 because I’m a top performer whilst vanguard included a promo in their contract as i’ll transition from graduate to normal SDE. i was previously leaning towards vanguard because i can try something new but amazon remains amazon. i have a lot of flexibility in my team. leadership always support me. very comfortable at amazon plus more money and L5 promo is kinda massive. but you don’t know what you don’t know. vanguard could open a door to new opportunities but that’s just what im thinking. i dont have anyone to refer to as to how life is at vanguard or in asset management so fuck it lets ask blind. money to me shouldnt be a factor. i just turned 21. i have 1 year of experience at amazon (2 internships) and i am leading the biggest projects in supply chain automation. im just worried about missing out on a new experience at vanguard vs getting that L5 and dipping by the time i get promoted from grad to sde at vanguard i could be an L5 at amazon but vanguard could open opportunities amazon wont (i might be wrong) to me its a 50/50 (all of the numbers in the offer evaluation were converted from £ to $) TC: intern so 62k£ #software #swe #career
Why would vanguard open opportunities Amazon wouldn’t? Vanguard is where you go when you’re older to rest and vest in my opinion. The pay is way less at vanguard which is fine to some since there is way less pressure, way less hours, and almost impossible to get fired. You can literally go there whenever you want. Source: 2 close friends that work there. One of which who tried and failed the loop for Amazon L5 SDE.
Are you sure about the equity part? Seems off to me for london
Depends on your 3-5 year plan, if it’s to go to another T1/FAANG then Amazon. If it’s to stay at current position for a while and chill then vanguard
i agree its only the graduate program learning opportunities im scared to miss out on. or do you think id learn more at amazon given id still work in the same scope
I’d go with Amazon, get the TC up and then apply to vanguard for higher level and more pay if you want
Take into account one thing. It might be just American Vanguard but their 401k vesting is over 6 years. I think 401k is the american equivalent of British ISA, so there might be a vesting schedule. I'd on the younger side go grind at Amazon for a little bit and then go to Vanguard later due to higher job security and less ageism. Chill and vest
it makes sense im more concerned about missing out on the finance industry work especially in a grad role where its mainly learning compared to amazon which is working on the same types of projects ive been working on for the past year
You can’t go wrong either way. Vanguard is a bit more stable for SWE types in this economic market
It’s really lax at vanguard don’t come here unless u want to coast.
🤣😂😂😂😂😂 the way you were talking about the offers I thought it was gonna be big. 🥜
come on man😭 just graduated and its europe TCs
This is not even a question unless you are immediately trying to rest and vest. Amazon TC is nearly double and brand name is much better. Also the compensation gap only gets higher at higher levels
Amazon: higher TC, more opportunities, looks better on resume Vanguard: 🥜
