Edit: I just signed an offer for a fully remote company with a slightly higher target comp. To those of you impacted, keep on looking and vote with your feet! A lot of you are supportive and a lot of you are going through the same; and to those I sympathize and wish you good Myself and hundreds, if not thousands of Amazonians were hired as virtual (many pre pandemic) and now are given mere months to pack up our lives and move cross country, or “voluntarily resign”, without severance. They are keeping this silent. It’s effectively a layoff without severance and to be determined how many of us will get unemployment (state specific). My hope with this post is that it will make it to the media so people can see that Amazon is not to be trusted as an employer. #severance #layoff #amazon

Why Pronouns shit captured US ? I don’t see this anywhere else
And I have the interview with them on Thursday. Is it a tech layoff?
This is company wide. Tech and non tech. If you are not by a hub (Seattle, Arlington, Nashville) then you need to move or get out. There is only one reason they are doing this; to save money by reducing HC and not paying severance. Proceed with caution.
Note: different orgs have different Hubs. My org has five cities designated as Hubs. I don’t live in any of em tho so it’s move or quit
Are you new to Blind, everyone knows Amazon is a dogshit employer. Worst of the FAANGs
Heard about this. Pretty crazy that a company can do this. It’s a complete reversal. I get it that it’s probably in the contract you sign bla bla but it’s just violates basic trust.
You don't even have to be hired on as remote. I was hired for in-office at *HQ2* and STILL being mandated to relocate to Seattle. It's madness.
What the actual f*ck!! I’ve lost all trust in leadership and it’s going to be a huge relief once I get something else. Good luck to you.
What is the HQ2? Sorry this has happened to you
I’m sure a “journalist” from Business Insider would love to amplify this post for you.
it’s not uncommon among big companies before covid also. by no means a layoff, hence no severance. My hope is op understands that voluntarily quitting instead of relocating is not a layoff. But not holding my breath.
Being hired to work in a place and then suddenly being told you need to move 3000 miles from there or resign is absolutely a constructive layoff (and that’s 100% why they are doing it). Gtfo with this.
I’ve worked at many large companies and anytime something similar happened (M&A) those who couldn’t move were offered a severance.
Make them fire you, you have a choice. Document everything, save your performance reviews, etc. Don’t voluntarily resign without a severance.
This is my path fwd in aws. Was told I will need to move or resign, and make a decision in 2 weeks. How about no? They accepted my terms of employment, too. They can voluntarily terminate me.
Great, now you'll have a termination on your record. How exactly do you expect this to help you?
Honestly, why are they doing f it? Is the only reason really just to force resignations and not pay severance?
Ding ding ding
Why would you "voluntarily resign" wo a severance? If you refuse to move wouldn't they be forced to lay you off and provide a severance?
or could get fired for absence
There’s no law for severance. It’s a nicety, they can lay you off with $0 any time. Any employer can.
I'm so sorry that is really messed up
Same in Intuit as well
We already knew not to trust Amazon. Fuck Intuit and HR Block. I hope they get reamed by the IRS made Free File.
