1) America has had migrants from the 1700s, followed by successive waves after WW1, WW2, Vietnam War, middle east wars, Afghanistan etc Migrants also create tons of small businesses, revitalize dying towns in the mid west and create countless start ups like Google, Instacart etc 2) Migrants need America because it is the land of milk and honey. Unparalleled access to capital to launch your business, best and the brightest from the world gather in one place, orderly and just society with rule of law, free speech and freedom to pursue the American dream without any of the negative baggage of their home countries (corruption, poverty, crime, bad infrastructure etc). No other place where you get compensated for no other metric than your skill or your ability to work hard (your religion, race, language, sexual orientation, skin color doesn't matter 3) Or is one of the party taking advantage of the other? America making immigrants go through hoops inspite of contributing to the tax base // immigrants displacing American jobs
Recent legal immigrants are significantly smarter than average population.
See above post. It doesn't matter.
If you consider America as a geographical location, it is the ancestral home for American Indian people. So your argument doesn’t apply to the people you want to apply.
Without immigrants, the US would be facing an aging and shrinking population. Affluent nations have fewer babies, plain and simple. Japan is an extreme example of this: the population is very old and there aren’t enough young workers to support their elders. It’s economic disaster. America and Germany have strong economies because they supplement their population with immigrants. We get the brightest and smartest people from around the world and a lot of really inexpensive laborers from Mexico: we need both. People who think immigrants are a drain on America don’t know shit and are just airing their stupidity or racism or both. Immigrants need America but no more than Americans need America. America absolutely needs immigrants a lot.
I do not disagree with this statement.
> Without immigrants, the US would be facing an aging and shrinking population. How we’ve treated the younger cohorts, including with these sketchy visa programs, is why the birth rate is so low and has continued to fall post-2007. Self-fulfilling prophecy.
I think both need each other tbh
"America is the land of milk and honey." This is the core issue. America is the ancestral home to some hundreds of millions of people; it is not merely an economic zone for the rest of the world's elite. It may not be as old as your home country, but Americans are a people nonetheless. Hence, the chief moral concern when discussing immigration is to what extent it benefits the American people, many of whom go back 3+ generations. Literally nothing else matters.
Those 3+ generations old came to milk this land bruh. They ignored the true natives of the land, did their own thing and call America their own. See the hypocrisy? Werent the natives people nonetheless? How did these 3+ generations benefit the true natives? Literally nothing else matter.
They did not ignore the "true" natives. They utterly destroyed them. No, there is no hypocrisy in my statement.
