I'm an SDE 2 at Amazon interviewing with Google at Seattle. Looking for some realistic upper bounds on salary negotiation. My current base is 110, my total comp is 180. I have 6yrs XP. At Amazon I am a year or two away from reaching SDE3 (according to my mgr and skip mgr) I feel like 180+ is a lot to ask for but me and my spouse come from working-class families so I know my negotiating compass is way off. I'm told that my compensation at Amazon is actually quite low, especially compared to new SDE 1.
You either make it to T4 or nothing. With T4 you should not need to negotiate for merely 180k+.
Err... SDE2 is L6 in Amazon? I don't think so.
6 years of experience sounds like an L4 max at Google, unless you hold a PhD. But the level you'd receive in your offer letter will depend on your performance during the interviews. In either case (L4 or L5), you should have no problem seeing a higher total comp package and higher base than $110.
BTW I came in at L3 (lowest level) and have 115 base, 160 total. From what I understand that's below median for L3.

How can my idiot brother who does real estate afford this
Shoot for $250K total comp. Tell them you're doing well at Amazon and the company is doing great and you don't see the value in moving without a significant bump to offset downside risk of moving to a new job
Thanks, I really like the phrasing as well. Puts it more in a "weighing options" frame instead of just "give me moar"
Wow.. awesome way to express desire to get more and so beautifully.. love it. Thank you. Please do post any such valuable phrases.
