Who are these retards asking for dictatorship in India?
Unless you work for yourself OR have a niche specific to your line of work thats hard to come by...I don't believe in job security. Employers in at will states have to ability to separate employment for any reason at any given time so long as its not a violation of those that fall under protected classes. The only security you have with a company that's understaffed is that you'll be overworked.
It’s understaffed because they want it that way otherwise they wouldn’t have spent the time to create widespread pip programs
What PIP are you speaking of? They haven't trickled down to my area I suppose but I've heard nothing about them.
What’s the exact logic behind mandatory PIP quotas in Amazon? What if you have a strong performing team where there aren’t any underperforming members? What’s the logic to layoff over performing employees?
Logic was PIPed long ago. Amazon hasn’t found a replacement yet
Amazon wants to proudly establish its culture as "cutthroat". One of our L7 moaned in orgasm about how proud he is of Amazon having cut throat culture.
Absolutely not. My team is understaffed and we can't hire for the open reqs, but my manager still had to PIP me (in 2021) because URA quota was never suspended.
True, but managers will have higher incentive to push back... only if they had a backbone...
They can't. Else, they get reprimanded for not raising the bar. Plus, PIP'ing a subordinate is a tried and true method to divert the attention from one's own incompetence in managing the team and producing the deliverables in a timely fashion. Anyone who tries to Insist on the Highest Standards can easily become the PIP URA target for failing to Deliver Results. Pipping someone is killing two birds with one stone.
What a fucked up org seriously . For every LP there is another counter LP. Once the stock price starts dropping and they can't get enough qualified talent they will be in Day 2 if they are not already
More AWS LSEs required for Day2
They thrive on getting people on L1 who will work like slaves ... so yeah no job security... learn tech, wait for your vest and gtfo
From my experience at AWS, they are headed for a meltdown. With the crazy ops load, tech debt, and now attrition, they have a lot of rebuilding ahead of them. They have to back off on the crazy feature build mantra.
One way of avoiding pip that I have seen a couple of frnds implement successfully is jumping teams every 2-3yrs. When I mean team, I mean the whole chain of mgmt till L8. Basically means, if you worked for Amazon Music, you shift to Amazon Video or something else. This keeps your job relevant and interesting without being saturated. Thus ur productivity is always high coz ur interested in working on a new domain.
No, as long as URA exists.
When the pip quota come, someone needs to be gone. It's plain simple and stupid how Amazon treate employees for years.
