Is the salary of a director in the software engineering department comparable to that of a director in the analytics organization? I am aware that individual contributors and managers in the analytics organization make 20-25% less than those in software development. However, I observe that a significant amount of effort is put into analytics and data science roles, and i dont understand why data analytics roles get paid less. Is this a general trend in other companies as well? How can someone in analytics progress in their career? The salary is by job family for most companies regardless of of the level. So a SWE director will usually make 10-30% more than a analytics director
Doss analytics also include Data science?
It is not about just effort put in. In fact it is mostly about beign critical or not. A company can survive without a DS org but can not without a SWE, who runs infra, systems etc. Similarly, marketing puts lots of efforts yet companies can survive without them, hence low TC for them. For better benefits and a secure path, better to switch to MLE instead of just staying as an analytics DS. Btw, why is your that low? Should be ~200K base, %20 bonus, ~100K rsu (over 3 years) and maybe new hire grant. Are you count just 1/3 of RSU? Curious as a stuff DS at Walmart in HCOL
I’m new to DS and ML, but just curious, is MLE critical to a product or company? Can a company survive without ML if they are tight on budget So is it better to be a generalist SWE rather then a MLE
SWE > MLE > DS. That’s how I think companies see.
