Samsung SARC YOE:8 Offer : Staff Engineer Base 165K, Sign-on Bonus : 50K and retention bonus 30K (50% after 2 years and remaining after 3 year) Need to consider relocation from Portland to Ausin. Never heard a good thing about Samsung culture so feel like they are lowballing here. #semiconductor #austin #offer #samsung #hardware
I know some smaller companies than Samsung in DFW companies that paid $165k salary for principal/staff engineers in 2016. Sign-on bonus looks good, retention bonus seems ok if you also get a yearly performance bonus.
There will be yearly performance bonus up to 20%. But, recruiter kept saying that it is subject to change and mostly he has seen people getting at the max 17%.
It’s a great offer for Austin , and within what SARC pays for your Yoe. It isn’t a lowball, for sure. Hope this helps.
Every Tom, Dick & Harry talks about Samsung culture without even experiencing it. If this is with GPU group, the team is excellent, no politics, offer is good for 8 yoe. The thing that you need to worry about is job security. SARC is notorious for killing product/teams if they don’t click. If you need RSU try Apple
This is for the GPU group? Base is solid, bonus could go higher as they dont do RSU.
The numbers you have seem consistent with the level - retention etc are tied to the level, which is staff. There’s some room to negotiate the base salary but not too much, recruiters usually don’t go for that unless you have a good competing offer. The SARC group is good, and you’re unlikely to be too affected directly by anything coming down from Korea at your level. It’s a good learning environment if you’re looking for that. For context I spent about 5.5 years at Samsung working with and as a part of SARC
Shit company and work culture
I’ve work at sarc for couple years, left before the layoff. It’s true that the management needs to step up their game and not listen to SK all the time. Been like this after Keith left. FYI: I got over 20% being top performer of my team. Their bonuses are part of the salary so it’s pretty guaranteed you’d get one. Not sure if things changed post layoff.
And that’s a good base for staff

Most of the business decisions happens in SK. Very little to say the leadership located in Austin. They had layoffs. there can be changes in road map which leads to closing down the org. Bonus is good, wlb is good.
I heard this from most of the friends. A very people I know worked directly in Samsung. However, recently they have tie-up with AMD for GPU and they were suggesting that this is a long-term plan.
They have don't have a GPU team anymore then or am I missing something ?
