Another addition to the smart hone offering! https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnet.com/google-amp/news/amazon-acquires-ring-in-a-bid-to-own-your-doorway/
Amazon is going to own everything home related. Good for them. I hate Microsoft is letting the home get away.
They should buy us.
š Next door is great for community organizing and communicating with your neighbors but I'm not sure how Amazon will monetize.
Interesting, why did they make their own camera first instead of going through acquisition two years ago?
Good for Amazon. Smart home is ours now!
Wasted time building camera ... Secondly 1 billion is a lot.... They could have easily built it in 6 months with 1/10th the cost
Maybe, but we would lose out on their experience and customer base, which are worth a lot.
Apple wasted an opportunity to get into smart home
Apple has given up on that. Homepod is a yet another wall around their garden when it has to be open to connect and control various IOT devices. They have no real smart hub and Siri is the worst of the voice assistants. The buyer was going to be either Amazon or Google, but Nest's products are way cleaner than Ring's. And they already made the Dropcam acquisition that didn't go so well. Look at their new doorbell. It's like 1/3 the size of Ring's and their cams can get better from Google's image recognition algos and AI.
Nest products were little expensive though.. and Ring has already reached good fraction of doorbell market and customer support is amazing. Amazon already bought Blink but definitely has enough money to reach more user market with this acquisition. But with iot market getting way bigger in coming years Apple doesnāt(shudnt) want to give up that easily.
