Sure, there are many principled libertarians who look to classical liberalism. But there is also an anti-egalitarian tendency in US libertarianism that merged with parts of the defeated segregationists and wants no government when it comes to civil rights but also calls for increasing police crackdowns. This tendency is not insignificant and is related to figures like Murray Rothbard and Ron Paul.
