The other day, someone told me there were opportunities for AWS freelancer / consultants to work on interesting problems at startups and high tier non tech companies and make > $1k a day. Does anyone have experience with this? How does one get in this game?
Following. I’m in the same mindset
Right on. What’s your YOE? I’m 4 years in now, and been working on certs on the side. My choices are I could LC to get a generic FAANG job that might silo my experience to their stack, or consult and grow my cloud experience (which I would like to)
fANG makes a lot more lol
I am currently a AWS/GCP consultant and planning to move to become FTE. Coz as consultant u dont get to own a feature/idea/product and always have to be on toes to be the best. I did consulting for 1.5 yrs. Hopefully going to be a FTE is a right move.
So you’re looking for stability then? I guess that makes sense if you find a rest and vest type of situation at a FANG or tier 1/2 company.
Yea more stability, but I don't think i am strong on algos/DS for FAANG level. They still need those for cloud positions
1k a day isn’t even that good. Bloomberg pays this all the time
$1k * 50 weeks * 5 days = $250k. Avg Bloomberg salary: $130k https://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/Bloomberg-L-P-Software-Engineer-Salaries-E3096_D_KO14,31.htm
I’m not trying to maximize TC here. Just wondering how people transitioned from FTE to consulting on cloud platforms and whether it’s easy to get in, and struggle to get a good network going.
