Any Wireless Technicians on Blind??

Read that AT&T is cutting 1800 jobs! Is this because the recession is starting? Also, as a side note what exactly is the background of these technicians in terms of education and skill? Can anyone be a technician? https://marketrealist.com/2019/06/att-to-cut-1800-jobs-across-its-wireline-division/

They have announced job cuts back in 2014 they said “we will continue to do what we do now but with only 1/3 of the staff” which back then that meant about 80,000 jobs

Most wireline divisions have seen a lot of contraction in the last 10-15 years. With the ubiquitous adoption of wireless phones and people cutting landlines, those sectors are seeing dropping profits, making it hard to justify keeping everyone. Techs are varied in education and skill. Some have tech school backgrounds, some started as installers and moved into their roles.

I work in retail for AT&T, and I have to say that our sales goals most highly weighted on wireline (TV/Broadband) sales. That being said, our goals have done nothing but go up, and them cutting down on techs is stupid, unless they're gonna start the 5G Home deployment to expand our footprint and have it be customer self-installation for everything.

Technicians often miss apppointments too because there aren’t enough techs for all the jobs they get assigned too

AT&T is losing to the competition, quite frankly.

Wireless Technician, the unionized employees, may be at risk especially if Mobility didn’t secure their jobs for the 5G rollout. Much like Core guaranteed all fiber placement for full time employees, that should have been done for you guys. There is an equivalent non union title, “Technician III - Cell” that does not lay off according to seniority and does not participate in the PARTNERSHIP job bank. Basically you’re management and have no rights. AT&T is the ONLY company whose actual W2 employees go up on towers. Thank god some are union. It’s a GOOD job if you can get it. Top of the union food chain for Mobility.
