Any chance that PERM processing takes less time now, with most of the big tech having paused the GC sponsorship?

Google, Amazon, Apple, Meta (?) have temporarily stopped their GC sponsorship. Many other companies also had layoffs this year. Does it mean that the DOL is not going to be as busy in 2024, so PERM applications may be processed faster?

They did ? I haven't heard about this

I think so. The PERMs are being reviewed rn started the entire green card process around the end of 2021 or end of 2022, when the market was still very good

The number of PERMs filed in FY2023 is still higher than in the period you mentioned.

Yep, just got the email. Something is not right. I can’t believe the WHOLE batch can fail.

Market being bad. Everyone is desperate for job. Even if it means working for tiktok lol

The number of PERM applications filed in FY2023 is higher than that of FY2022, and is also higher than that of FY2021. So the effect might not be shown in the near future. However, the number of PWDs are decreasing recently, so it's possible that the number of PERMs in FY2024 would be lower. But you'll have to wait until near FY2025 before DOL will start processing those FY2024 PERMs. https://www.dol.gov/sites/dolgov/files/ETA/oflc/pdfs/PERM_Selected_Statistics_FY2023_Q4.pdf

It seems average days to process perm are lower now compared to a year ago.

Meta wsxedcr Dec 14, 2023

That's not true. It's slower right now.

SAP ng0dd0 Dec 12, 2023

No. There were layoffs in the end of 2022 and beginning of 2023 in tech, but somehow PERM processing time only increased (and takes around 11-12 months, during COVID it was 8-10 months). If layoffs didn’t improve processing times, I don’t believe that current situation changes anything.

I think DOL intentionally slowed down PERM processing because of the layoffs in IT.
