They might be depressed. Seek treatment. They might be looking to find someone to blame for this situation and unfortunately often times that is the spouse.
This is what happens when money is the sole purpose of existence.

Ehh…. YES! This is totally normal. The number one couples fight about is money. After a layoff this intensifies, both because the money aspect and what I like to call the “crack in the wall” theory. The theory goes like this: if you’re busy with intense work, you don’t notice (or care) about small things at home. They seem small and insignificant, such as a spouse leaving their dishes out a little bit too long. However, when work disappears (laid off), all the other concerns at home suddenly become much more troublesome. You/she/he will hyper-focus on things at home, because they seem so much bigger now that work isn’t taking any attention away. So that leads to even more fighting. It’s tough! I recommend couples counseling early on.
Money is one of the leading causes of divorce ( in the US) So may be something for both of you to reflect on! All th best !
